Re: ACP or SP: Which is the higher post?
Wow, this thread is filled with so many idiots.
ACP = Assistant Commissioner of Police (Don't mistake it for Additional Commissioner of Police, which is a pretty higher post) ACP also called as Dy.SP(Deputy Superintendent of Police) is the starting rank for IPS officers after probation period. After 9 to 13 years of service, they reach the post of SP(Superintendent of Police) or DCP(Deputy Commissioner of Police). This is a District level post and the officer is incharge of all police stations under that district. While ACP or Dy.SP is the starting IPS rank, it is an entry rank and the officer is incharge of certain police stations in the district. He can be called as Zonal police officer, since he is incharge of certain zones.Like it can be Mumbai East zone or Delhi south zone, etc. He is the Sub-Divisional officer. So, its more than clear that SP or DCP is a much higher rank than ACP or Dy.SP. Get your facts straight. |

Re: ACP or SP: Which is the higher post?
(ACP) Assistant Commissioner of Police and DSP are equivalent rank. An ACP can be promoted as DCP That is equivalent to the SP or SSP of a district........Let me explain in this way.....an ACP or DSP always put 3 stars on their shoulders without red and blue riben . As far as matter comes about an SP he always get emblem or an emblem with a star depending on the capacity of district.

Re: ACP or SP: Which is the higher post?
Hey guys i am also DCP WITH 2 STARS OR SSP
Sp means DCP which have our national emblem with 1 star and ASP also have national emblem with no star.and DSP or ACP has no national emblem.. It has only IPS mark with 3 stars Conclusion is that DCP OR SSP is greater post than SP and SP is greater post than ASP and ASP is greater than ACP %u2026 .. SO SP is baap of ACP |

Re: ACP or SP: Which is the higher post?
A.C.P post in metropolitan cities is equal to D.S.P post or C.O post in district level .D.C.P post in metro cities is equal to S.P or S.S.P post in district level .so S.P is senior officer than A.C.P that is D.S.P ranked junior officer

Re: ACP or SP: Which is the higher post?
A.C.P post in metro cities equal to D.S.P or C.O in district level .A.C.P post is hold by both IPS and SPS officers.but the D.S.P or C.O is hold by SPS officers not by IPS officers. IPS officers are posted as probationary ASP s and SDPO s in district level . .D.C.P post in metro cities is equal to S.p or S.S.P in district level . It is hold by both IPS and promoted senior SPS officers .this post is senior than A.C.P post which is a junior level officer

Hi there, Thank you for the information, but the point 9 itself says that ACP =DySP and point 7 says DCP =SP. Thus, ACP is not a post higher than SP. |

ACP :- Assistant commissioner of police equals to deputy superintendent of police (DSP) which is less cadre compared to superintendent of police (SP)

Re: ACP or SP: Which is the higher post?
For a district (Let's consider a capital district like Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Bangalore etc.), maintaining law and order is too difficult. For the easiness, the district is divided into Rural and City
City Police is headed by a Commissioner who is in the rank of DIG and Rural Police is headed by SP (either IPS or non IPS). ACP stands for Assistant Commissioner of Police, who comes under City Police. ACP reports to DCP (Deputy Commissioner of Police) who in turn reports to City Police Commissioner. In Rural SP is equivalent to DCP in City. In simple words, SP is in higher rank than ACP. Equivalent rank of ACP in Rural Police is DSP (DySP in certain States) which stands for Deputy Superintendent of Police. DSP reports to SP as ACP reports to DCP. Hope you understood. |
