IAS examination was conducted by UPSC every year. The examination are held in 2 stages - Preliminery exam and Main exam. The Preliminery exam are consist of 2 paper of equal marks. There are 3 stages in this exam namely

Preliminary exam
Main exam
Interview

You should refer ncert books and Airihant for 1st paper, for 2nd paper Tata Macgrew is one of the best for IAS prelims and u should read one national paper like The hindu, which have cover the whole circumstances of the world.
