iam doing my btech 2nd year (mechanical engineering0in siddarth institute of engineering and technology .iam interested to do a government job. to get a government job what courses i have to do and for which competitive exams i have to prepare.

ISRO,NTPC,BHPV,Steel Plants across India,JINDAL,SAIL,BHEL,L&T,Hindustan Motors,Tata Motors,Caterpillar,Mahindra & Mahindra,GAIL,ONGC..etc

Yes there are many options for you in the govt sector.

for example the most precious option for you in govt high graded job is IES this is exclusive for only 4 or 5 branches of engineering you should feel proud about your eligibility for this

you need to appear this exam after or while pursuing your 4th year of BE

This is the IES job after B.Tech

And other options available for a B.Tech Graduate is that you can go with your interest i.e., in to core job or other general job

core jobs like Power engineers and system engineers etc.., other general jobs like IAS/IPS etc.,

for core jobs you have to write separate entrances for each for example if you want job in ECIL then you need to write entrance regarding that same way if you want BHEL the same fashion you need to take interview and all

For Other jobs like IAS and all you need to clear an entrance exam called CSE of UPSC this exam is conducted every year

You are percusing mechanical engg the biggest engg stream ,
you have alot of sector to allpy for that and choos eas per your intrest
almost all of the govenment sector is open for you

You should apply :

DRDO
IES
Railway
BHEL
BEL
HPCL
SAIL

and alot of more exam ..

can a student from mechanical and automation engg. aplly for ies exam in mechanical stream?

To get into PSU, you need to have good graduation marks and nothing else.
First you should concentrate to get 80% marks in graduation to increase your chance.
How well you perform in interview, you marks always has the major component in government company interview.

For getting into PSU, you need to appear for GATE exams as these day most PSU are recruiting candidates via GATE score.
More you score, better is a chance to get into government company
