The eligibility criteria for the IAS examination is mentioned below. You can refer your eligibility criteria from here. 1 Academic Eligibility for IAS Exams Bachelor’s degree of a recognised university with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physcs, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Enginerring or an equivalent qualification. 2 No. of permissible attempts : Four (Seven attemps of OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs 3 Fee : Rs. 100/- (Rupees one hundred only) (No fee for SCs/STs/Physically disabled only) 4 Examination Papers: Preliminary Examination The preliminary examination consists of two papers: * Paper I — General Studies 150 marks * Paper II — An Optional subject 300 marks Subjects for Paper II (one subject to be selected): Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Commerce, Economics, Electrical Engineering, Geography, Geology, Indian History, Law, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Medical Science, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Public Administration, Sociology, Statistics, Zoology. Both the papers will be of objective type questions (multiple choice). The question papers are set in Hindi as well as in English. The course content for the optional subjects will be of the degree level. Each paper is of two hours duration. Blind candidates are allowed an extra time of 20 minutes for each paper. Main Examination It Consists of the following papers: * Paper I - One Indian language (selected by the candidate) 300 marks * Paper II - English 300 marks * Paper III - Essay 200 marks * Paper IV&V - General Studies 300 marks each * Paper VI-IX - Any two subjects (optional papers to be selected by the candidate) with two papers each 300 marks for each. Each paper is of 3 hours duration. you need to between 21-30 years if you are not expecting age relaxation. you need to have a graduate degree or equivalent from a recognized university. |

Civil Services (Prel) Exam, 2011: Date of Notification: 19.02.2011 Last Date for Receipt of Applications: 21.03.2011 Date of Exam: 12.06.2011 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: Educational Qualifications for IAS : Bachelor’s degree of a recognized university with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering or an equivalent qualification. Age limit: 21 years must be completed on 1st August of the year, which a candidate is appearing. Maximum 30 for general category, 33 for OBCs and 35 for SCs/STs. Number of Attempts: Four attempts for open, seven for OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs. If a person appears in the Preliminary Examination or even one paper is counted as an attempt. For IAS, one need to go through a civil services examination conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission ) every year.
The eligibility that one should posses to appear for IAS exam is as follows Academic qualification : One should be a graduate from a recognized university. IAS is a civil service exam which is conducted by UPSC every year.
This year it is on 12.06.2011. The last date to apply is over....you can apply next year. the educational qualification required for IAS is a graduation degree from any recognized university... and your age should remain between 21 years and 30 years. Age relaxation for OBC are 3 years, for SC/ST it's 5 years. |

Educational Qualifications :
A degree of any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be a Deemed University under the UGC Act, 1956, or an equivalent qualification. Nationality : i. Only Indian nationals are eligible for IAS and IPS. ii. For other services a candidate can be either of the following: a. a citizen of India, b. a subject of Nepal, c. a subject of Bhutan, d. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or e. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Burma, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Vietnam, Zaire or Zambia with the intention of permanently settling in India. Candidates belonging to either categories of b., c., d. or e., must produce an eligibility certificate issued by the Government of India. Those who belong to either of b., c., or d., categories are not eligible for appointment to the Indian Foreign Service. Age Limit : i. A candidate must have attained 21 years and not be over 30 years on August 1 of the year of examination. ii. Eligibility Conditions:
(i) Nationality (1) For the Indian Administrative Service and the Indian Police Service, a candidate must be a citizen of India. (2) For other services, a candidate must be either :— (a) A citizen of India, or (b) a subject of Nepal, or (c) a subject of Bhutan, or (d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India. or (e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Srilanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. Provided further that candidates belonging to categories (b), (c) and (d) above will not be eligible for appointment to the Indian Foreign Service. A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary, may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Government of India. Age Limits: style="COLOR: black">(a) A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 1st August, 2003, i.e. he must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1973 and not later than 1st August, 1982. (b) The upper age limit prescribed above will be relaxable: (i) upto a maximum of five years if a candidate belongs to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe. (ii) upto a maximum of three years in the case of candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes who are eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates. (iii) upto a maximum of five years if a candidate had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from the 1st January, 1980 to the 31st day of December, 1989. (iv) upto a maximum of three years in the case of Defence Services personnel disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof: (v) upto a maximum of five years in the case of ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs/SSCOs who have rendered at least five years Military Service as on 1st August, 2003 and have been released (i) on completion of assignment (including those whose assignment is due to be completed within one year from 1st August, 2003) otherwise than by way of dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency, or (ii) on account of physical disability attributable to Military Service, or (iii) on invalidment. (vii) upto a maximum of 10 years in the case of blind, deaf-mute and Orthopaedically handicapped persons. NOTE I-Candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes and the Other Backward Classes who are also covered under any other clauses of para 3(ii) (b) above, viz. those coming under the category of Ex-servicemen, persons domiciled in the State of J & K, blind, deaf-mute and orthopadically handicapped etc. will be eligible for grant of cumulative age-relaxation under both the categories. NOTE II-The term ex-servicemen will apply to the persons who are defined as ex-servicemen in the Ex-servicemen (Re-employment in Civil Services and Posts) Rules, 1979, as amended from time to time. Note III-The age concession under para 3(ii) (b) (v) and (vi) will not be admissible to Ex-Servicemen and Commissioned Officers including ECOs/SSCOs who are released on own reguest. NOTE IV- Notwithstanding the provision of age-relaxation under para 3(ii) (b) (vii) above, a physically handicapped candidate will be considered to be eligible for appointment only if he/she (after such physical examination as the Government or appointing authority, as the case may be, may prescribe) is found to satisfy the requirements of physical and medical standards for the concerned Services/posts to be allocated to the physically handicapped candidates by the Government. Save as provided above the age limits prescribed can in no case be relaxed. The date of birth accepted by the Commission is that entered in the Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate or in a certificate recognised by an Indian University as equivalent to Matriculation or in an extract from a Register of Matriculates maintained by a University, which extract must be certified by the proper authority of the University or in the Higher Secondary or an equivalent examination certificate. These certificates are required to be submitted only at the time of applying for the Civil Services (Main) Examination. No other document relating to age like horoscopes, affidavits, birth extracts from Municipal Corporation, service records and the like will be accepted. The expression Matriculation/Secondary Examination Certificate in this part of the instruction includes the alternative certificates mentioned above. NOTE 1:- Candidates should note that only the Date of Birth as recorded in the Matriculation/Secondary Examination Certificate or an equivalent certificate on the date of submission of applications will be accepted by the Commission and no subsequent request for its change will be considered or granted. Note 2 :- Candidates should also note that once a Date of Birth has been claimed by them and entered in the records of the Commission for the purpose of admission to an Examination, no change will be allowed subsequently (or at any other Examination of the Commission) on any grounds whatsoever. Note 3 :- The candidate should exercise due care while entering their date of birth in column 8 of the application form for the Preliminary Examination. If on verification at any subsequent stage, any variation is found in their date of birth from the one entered in their matriculation or equivalent Examination certificate, disciplinary action will be taken against them by the commission under the Rules. Minimum Educational Qualifications: The candidate must hold a degree of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University Under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification. Note I : Candidates who have appeared at an examination the passing of which would render them educationally qualified for the Commission’s examination but have not been informed of the results as also the candidates who intend to appear at such a qualifying examination will also be eligible for admission to the Preliminary Examination. All candidates who are declared qualified by the Commission for taking the Civil Services (Main) Examination will be required to produce proof of passing the requisite examination with their application for the Main Examination failing which such candidates will not be admitted to the Main Examination. The applications for the main examination will be called sometime in the month of July/August, 2003. Note II: In exceptional cases the Union Public Service Commission may treat a candidate who has not any of the foregoing qualifications as a qualified candidate provided that he has passed examination conducted by the other Institutions, the standard of which in the opinion of the Commission justifies his admission to the examination. Note III: Candidates possessing professional and technical qualifications which are recognised by Government as equivalent to professional and technical degree would also be eligible for admission to the examination. Note IV: Candidates who have passed the final professional M.B.B.S. or any other Medical Examination but have not completed their internship by the time of submission of their applications for the Civil Services (Main) Examination, will be provisionally admitted to the Examination provided they submit along with their application a copy of certificate from the concerned authority of the University/Institution that they had passed the requisite final professional medical examination. In such cases, the candidates will be required to produce at the time of their interview original Degree or a certificate from the concerned competent authority of the University/Institution that they had completed all requirements (including completion of internship) for the award of the Degree. Number of attempts: Every candidate appearing at the Civil Services Examination, who is otherwise eligible, shall be permitted four attempts at the examination. Provided that this restriction on the number of attempts will not apply in the case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates who are otherwise eligible. Provided further that the number of attempts permissible to candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes, who are otherwise eligible, shall be seven. Note: 1. An attempt at a Preliminary Examination shall be deemed to be an attempt at the examination. 2. If a candidate actually appears in any one paper in the Preliminary Examination, he shall be deemed to have made an attempt at the examination. 3. Notwithstanding the disqualification/cancellation of candidature the fact of appearance of the candidate at the examination will count as an attempt. (v) Restrictions on applying for the examination: A candidate who is appointed to the Indian Administrative Service or the Indian Foreign Service on the results of an earlier examination and continues to be a member of that service will not be eligible to compete at this examination. In case such a candidate is appointed to the IAS/IFS after the Preliminary Examination of Civil Services Examination, 2003 is over and he/she continues to be a member of that service, he/she shall not be eligible to appear in the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2003 notwithstanding his/her having qualified in the Preliminary Examination, 2003. Also provided that if such a candidate is appointed to IAS/IFS after the commencement of the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2003 but before the result thereof and continues to be a member of that service, he/she shall not be considered for appointment to any service/post on the basis of the result of this examination viz. Civil Services Examination, 2003. Physical Standards: Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to Civil Services Examination. 2003 as per guidelines given in Appendix-III of Rules for Examination published in the Gazette of India Extraordinary dated 7th December, 2002. FEE: A candidate seeking admission to examination must pay to the Commission a fee of Rs. 50.00 (Rupees Fifty only) through a single Central Recruitment Fee Stamp of requisite denomination. Central recruitment Fee Stamp (NOT postage stamps) may be obtained from the post office and affixed on the application form in the space provided therein. The stamp must be got cancelled from the issuing Post Office with the date stamp of the post office in such a manner that the impression of the cancellation mark partially overflows on the application form itself but within the space provided on the form. The impression of the cancellation mark should be clear and distinct to facilitate the identification of date and the Post Office of issue. Candidates residing abroad should deposit the prescribed fee in the office of India's High Commissioner, Ambassador or representative abroad as the case may be for credit to account head "051-Public Service Commission-Examination Fees" and attach the receipt with the application. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes are not required to pay any fee. No Fee exemption is, However, Available to OBC Candidates and they are required to pay the full-prescribed fee. Physically handicapped persons are exempted from the payment of fee provided they are otherwise eligible for appointment to the Services/Posts to be filled on the results of this examination on the basis of the standards of medical fitness for these Services/Posts (including any concessions specifically extended to the physically handicapped). A physically handicapped candidate claiming fee concession will be required by the Commission to submit along with their detailed application form, a certified copy of the certificate from a Government Hospital/Medical Board in support of his claim for being physically handicapped. NOTE: Notwithstanding the aforesaid provision for fee exemption, a physically handicapped candidate will be considered to be eligible for appointment only if he (after such physical examination as the Government or the appointing authority, as the case may be, may prescribe) is found to satisfy the requirements of physical and medical standards for the concerned Services/Posts to be allocated to Physically Handicapped candidates by the Government. 'Postage Stamps' will in no case be accepted in lieu of 'Central Recruitment Fee Stamp'. Candidates should note that the fee sent through Indian Postal Orders, Bank Draft, Money Order, Crossed Cheque, Currency notes or Treasury Challan etc. will not be accepted by the Commission and such applications will be treated as without fee and will be summarily rejected. Note I : Applications not accompanied by the prescribed Fee (Unless remission of Fee is claimed) shall be summarily rejected. Note II : Fee once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstances nor can the fee be held in reserve for any other examination or selection. Note III : If any candidate who took the Civil Services Examination held in 2002 wishes to apply for admission to this examination, he must submit his application so as to reach the Commission’s Office by the prescribed date without waiting for the results or an offer of appointment. Note IV : Candidates admitted to the Main Examination will be required to pay a further fee of Rs. 100/- (Rs. one hundred only). |

The eligibility that one should posses to appear for IAS exam is as follows Academic qualification : One should be a graduate from a recognized university. IAS Examination was conducted by Union Public Service Commission every year.
Age limits :- The candidate age should between 21 yrs to 30 yrs as on August 1st of the year of examination. Relaxation in age limit is given to various reserved categories like, Three year relaxation for OBC candidates. Five year relaxation for SC/ST candidates. Five year relaxation for Ex-service men candidates. Qualification :- The candidate must possess a bachelor degree from any recognized university and those in the final year of examination may also eligible. This particular entrance examination is divided into two parts.One is preliminary examination and other one is main examination as well as interview. Following are the eligibility criteria to appear in the IAS exam: 1. You must have a Bachelor degree from a recognized university with at least one of the following subjects- Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology/ Bachelor degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering or an equivalent qualification. 2. No. of permissible attempts is Four (Seven attempts for OBCs and no limit for SC/ST) 3. Must be Not less than 21 years and exceeding 30 years as on 01 August 2012. Upper age limit will be relaxed for reserve category as per rule of Government. Dear friend, to apply for IAS or indian administrative services you need to complete your graduation in any stream from a recognised university. There is no percentage of marks needed for applying. All the graduates can apply. The exam is conducted by UPSC every year. Your age must be between 21-30 years(for general candidates) to apply. For OBC and SC/ST candidates there is a relaxation of 3 and 5 years respectively.All the best. Regards.
