Re: Eligibility of IT (B.Tech.) students for IES exams?
Dear Friend
You can't apply for Indian Engineering Services during third year of B.Tech. You can apply for the exam when you will be in final year or after passing the B.Tech. There are only three streams for IES examination. 1. Civil Engineering 2. Mechanical Engineering 3. Electrical Engineering 4. Electronics and Communication Engineering But, it doesn't mean that to be eligible for this exam you are required to have a B.Tech. degree in any one of above four mentioned stream. There is no such restriction. Only a B.Tech. in any stream is required. You can surely apply for the exam and you can choose any one of the four stream according to your convenience. As you are pursuing B.Tech. in Information Technology you should choose ECE for IES exam because there is many course content in common. FOr any further information you should visit: http://www.upsc.gov.in Thank You |

Re: Eligibility of IT (B.Tech.) students for IES exams?
Look lets make one thing clear, it is Engineering Service exam and not IES as IES stands for Indian Economic Service, and you being an engineering student must not be looking for the latter.
Now Engineering Service exams is conducted for the following categories: 1.Civil Engineering 2.Mechanical Engineering. 3.Electrical Engineering 4.E&C Engineering Now you are an IT student, so I say you can appear for the exam, but you have to appear for the above categories only.So it can be a bit difficult for you to study for some other stream. Educational Qualification: And bachelor's degree in engineering from a recognized university. Also, final yeat students can apply. You are a pre-final year student, so cannot apply. Also note once you in the final you can try. |
