Of Course, you can apply for the IAS examination. Graduates in any discipline are qualified to apply for the test. The IES exam is conducted for recruiting Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics & telecommunication engineering graduates. Since you have done your B.Tech in Computers Science, you are not qualified to attend the IES exam. The best combination subjects you can choose are Electrical engineering and Mathematics. You can also choose your favourite electives according to your interest. Please visit the official website of UPSC to know more details regarding the test.

As far as educational qualification is concerned;
All Graduates are eligible for Civil Services(IAS) examination (Graduation should have been done from a Govt. of India recognised university) and All Engineering Graduates(or equivalent like AMIE ) and M.Sc. degree holders (or equivalent) with Wireless Communication, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as a special subject are eligible for Engineering Services Examination(IES). The IES advertisement published by UPSC exactly states that; For admission to the examination, a candidate must have— (a) obtained a degree in Engineering from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other Educational Institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as Universities under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956; or (b) passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India); or (c) obtained a degree/diploma in Engineering from such foreign University/ College/Institution and under such conditions as may be recognised by the Government for the purpose from time to time, or (d) passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India); or (e) passed Associate Membership Examination Parts II and III/Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India; or (f) passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London held after November, 1959. Provided that a candidate for the post of Indian Naval Armament Service (Electronics Engineering Posts) and Engineer, Gr. 'A' in Wireless Planning & Coordination Wing/ Monitoring Organisation may possess any of the above qualifications or the qualification mentioned below namely:- M.Sc. degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communication, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as a special subject. Therefore you are eligible for both the examination. The best combination of optional subjects for civil services can't be suggested exactly because it depends on particular's interest and previous academics. As student of Science background might not be good with arts subjects and vice-versa. Further if a student of science background is having deep interest in arts subjects he/she can easily opt for arts subjects. So, if you want to explore the best combination for you then you first explore yourself ,your capability and your interests. If you can do this you will surely come to know what you want to know. ~ Contents in Italics are taken from IES advertisement published in Employment News. |

for IAS you have to appear in civil service examination. the eligibility criterion to appear in civil service examination is candidate should have minimum of graduation degree in any discipline from any recognized university. the age must be in between 21 to 30 for general category to appear in civil service examination.
now B.Tech in computer science engineering is equivalent to graduate degree so you are eligible for civil service examination. here i am attaching the notification for civil service examination. go through the attachment for details about the civil service examination. but you are not eligible for Indian Engineering services(IES). because the eligible four stream of engineering for IES examination are Category I—Civil Engineering. Category II—Mechanical Engineering. Category III—Electrical Engineering. Category IV—Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. so computer science engineering is not included in IES examination. both civil service and IES examination is conducted by UPSC. visit UPSC website http://www.upsc.gov.in here i am also attaching the notification for IES examination also. best wishes. |
