Since you have completed Bachelor of Technology, you are eligible for the Indian Police Service. B.Tech is a valid course which is accepted by the Union Public Service Commission for the Civil Services Examination.

The procedure of applying does not change. It remains the same regardless of which degree you have completed. The forms are released towards the first quarter of the year while preliminary exams are conducted in May and Main exam in August.

While you are meeting the qualification criteria to apply for Indian Police Service. It is also important to meet the physical criteria. Otherwise you will not be able to apply for IPS. I will come to physical criteria later in the answer.

Now firstly let me point out criteria.

Eligibility

1. Indian citizens are eligible to apply for it.

2. Only those who have bachelor degree are eligible.

3. You don't need to meet any minimum percentage.

4. You should not be younger than 21 years.

5. At the same time not older than 30 years.

6. However OBC can apply till 33 years.

7. SC/ST are welcomed to apply till 35 years.

Physical Requirement

Height Criteria

1. Male candidate should be at least 165 cm tall while Female should be 150 cm.

2. The ST candidate should be 165 cm (M) and 145 cm (F).

Chest Criteria

1. For Male the minimum size of chest should be 84 cm with 5 cm expansion.

2. In Female the requirement is 79 cm with 5 cm expansion.

Eye Criteria

1. Anyone suffering from color blindness or night blindness can not apply.

2. 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye

3. 6/12 or 6/9 for worst eye

Selection Procedure

1. Preliminary Exam

All the candidates who have applied for IPS are first called for Preliminary exam which is conducted in May. The purpose of this exam is to only qualify for the Main Exam. Your score in this exam will not be added to final tally.

There are two written tests. First is general studies and for second you will have to select the subject. Generally students prefer subject like Geography or History to clear the exam.

2. Main Exam

Couple of months after the preliminary exam you will be called for Main exam. Generally this exam is conducted in August and there are 9 written tests.

Here you will have to select 2 optional subjects. There will be 2 written tests on each optional subject. My recommendation would be to select subject that is related to your course.

3. Interview
