Passing your class 12 board exam is not enough to sit for civil service exams. The minimum eligibility criteria required to give any civil service exam is a graduate degree. So firstly you have to choose the right subject which interests you at graduation level and then ensure good marks at undergraduate level. Then from the final year of college you can simultaneously take preparation for IPS on your own or with the help of a coaching institute.

Here's the details of the exam in a nutshell for you:-

IPS stands for Indian Police Service. This exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. The preliminary exam took place in the month of May and Main Exam will take place in the month of December this year.

As mentioned earlier the basic eligibility criteria required is a graduate degree. The subject you choose is of little significance here. While appearing for this exam your age should not be less than 21 years or more than 30 years if you belong to the general category. There is relaxation available for the following categories:-

• SC/ST Candidates: 5 years
• OBC Candidates: 3 years
• Defense Personnel: 3 years
• Ex-Servicemen: 5 years

Physical Standard:-

A. Height:-
-Male: 165 cm
-Female: 150 cm

B. Chest:-
-Male: Minimum 84 cm. (Expansion 5 cm.)
-Female: Min 79 cm (Expansion 5 cm.)

C. Eye sight:-
-Good Eye:- 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye.
-Worst Eye:- 6/12 or 6/9 for worst eye.

IPS exam consist of total 9 papers which are based on different topics. These are as follows:

• Paper I: General Studies
• Paper II: Language Exam
• Paper III: General English
• Paper IV: Essay
• Paper V, VI, VII, VIII and IX: Optional Subjects

Eligibility Criteria for the Civil Services examination.

Academic Qualification-
--> Pass graduation is any stream from a recognize University. Final year graduation candidates may also apply.

Age Limit-
--> The age must be between 21 to 30 years at the time of examination. The upper age relaxation is also applicable for the reserve category.

Physical Standard : The candidates must be physically and mentally fit as per government rule.

These are the basic eligibility criteria for the IAS examination. As you are a 12th passed candidates then first complete your graduation degree in any stream from a recognize University. Chest: The minimum chest girth, fully expanded: 84 cm for men and 79 cm for women

Eyesight: A distant vision of 6/2 or 6/ 9 for worse eye and 6/6 or 6/9 vision for good eye. Near vision of J2 for worse eye and J1 for good eye

Ladies should not be pregnant at the time of medical test

IPS stands for Indian Police Service.After completing 12th you are not eligible for IPS officer exam.

First you should go for a bachelor degree in any discipline.After pursuing a bachelor degree you can appear entrance exam i.e. civil service exam.

Eligibility Criteria:-

Educational Qualification- A Bachelor's degree in any discipline from recognized university.

Age Criteria:- 21 to 30 years.

Exam Pattern:- Preliminary Exam , Main Exam
