There are several requirements which a candidate is required to meet in order to be eligible for the Indian Police Service (IPS). Apart from the age and educational criteria a candidate should meet physical requirements as well.

These physical requirements include height, chest, weight and vision as well. In which the biggest confusion is surrounding the eyesight. As per the Union Public Service Commission which conducts the Civil Service Exam, the eyesight can be corrected but only via spectacles. There is no mention of lasik and the contact lenses which can be assumed as they are not allowed.

However there is a catch for those who are wearing eyeglasses. Check the requirement for eyesight below.

Eye Sight:

6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye

6/12 or 6/9 for worst eye

No color blindness or night blindness

Now a candidate is eligible if after wearing spectacles his eyesight is correctable to 6/6.

This is the catch. If your eyes are correctable to 6/6 after the eyeglasses which is considered normal then you are eligible. Otherwise you can not appear for the Civil Service Exam for Indian Police Service.
