Re: How to be an IAS officer if I am a good engineer
Hi,
You are an engineer, that means, you are a graduate. If you want to become an IAS officer, you will have to qualify CSAT, which is the entrance exam for IAS. CSAT is conducted by UPSC. But to apply for CSAT, you will have to fulfill the eligibility criteria for it , which are - Nationality- Indian Qualification- Graduation from a recognised university. Age - Not below 21 years, not above 30 years. ( 3 years relaxation for OBC and 5 years relaxation for SC/ST) So, if you fulfill the third criteria also, then you can apply for CSAT. To get success in IAS exam, you should study hard with full dedication and focussed approach. You should join some good coaching in your are for an organized preparation. How to apply - UPSC notifies about the IAS exam in all the leading newspapers. You can also check it on THE EMPLOYMENT NEWS. Else visit - www.upsc.gov.in Applications are invited through newspaper. |

Re: How to be an IAS officer if I am a good engineer
You can certainly become Indian Administrative Service officer. But it would not matter how good engineer you are. You will have to appear for entrance exam like any other candidate and clear it in order to become IAS officer.
The first piece of advice I will give is not to quit your job. First appear for the IAS entrance exam and only if you get selected, think of quitting the job. You should balance your preparation and job right now. To clear the IAS entrance exam you must study hard. Having a engineering degree will not offer any advantage to you. Start off with improving your General Knowledge and English (if it needs work). For general studies you should study NCERT books for the Class 12th. Since you are very good in Engineering, consider choosing your Engineering stream subjects for the Optional subjects. However this is not mandatory. You can choose any subject which you find easy. Eligibility 1. Only citizens of India can apply for IAS. 2. Your age should be 21 to 30 years to apply. 3. Age limit is extended by 3 years for OBC. 4. SC/ST are given 5 years relaxation. 5. A graduation degree in any stream is required. 6. There is no percentage criteria. Exam Pattern 1) Preliminary Exam 2) Main Exam 3) Interview |

Re: How to be an IAS officer if I am a good engineer
Hi Guest,
The eligibility criteria for IAS are completion of graduation from a recognized university. As you possess the eligibility criteria you can give the exam. In order to become an IAS officer, you need to give the CIVILS exam conducted by UPSC. If you satisfy the eligibility criteria, then you can give for the exam. It is one of the toughest exams in India and you need to work very hard in order to crack the exam. The exam is going to be in two sessions and in the first there is going to be the preliminary examination and later the mains exam. You need to spend the maximum time in the preparation of the exam, so give the best in preparation of the exam and crack the Civils exam in order to become an IAS officer. Thank you, All the best. |

Re: How to be an IAS officer if I am a good engineer
Hi Friend,
UPSC fills IAS, IPS and other central service postions by a three stage process 1. CSAT 2. Civil Services Mains 3. IAS Interview Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) is a UPSC test that eliminates non-serious candidates. It is an objective test with two papers. CSAT 2013 is scheduled for May 19, 2013 (Sunday) Civil Services Mains is main and deciding phase of IAS exams conducted by UPSC. Each candidate needs to write subjective answers to multiple papers. Any degree holder from any recognized University in any discipline with any percentage is eligible provided he/she fulfills other UPSC eligibility criteria. Students who are in final year in 2012 can appear for UPSC CSAT 2013 if they can obtain their degree by July 2013. IAS interview is the final phase of the UPSC IAS Exams. Cool Thanks... |
