CDS Stand for Combined Defence Service Examination and this examination is conducted by UPSC twice in a year for admission to Military Academy , Naval Academy , Air force Academy , Officer Training Academy .

CDS stands for Combined Defence Services . This exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. By giving this exam you can join the following academies:
In order to enter these academies you need to satisfy certain eligibility criteria. The eligibility criteria for entering different academy is different. Some of them have been listed below: Indian Military Academy: ==> To join this academy you need to be a bachelor's degree holder in any discipline from a recognized university. ==> Your age should be between 19 and 24 years when applying for this academy. Air Force Academy: ==> If you have a bachelor's degree in science with physics or mathematics or a bachelor's degree in engineering or technology then you are eligible. The minimum age limit is 19 years. Your age should not exceed 23 years when applying for this exam. Naval Academy: On having a B.E./B.Tech degree in any discipline or B.Sc degree with Physics and Mathematics you can apply for this academy. To join the naval academy your age should vary between 19 and 22 years when applying for this exam. Selection Procedure: Although the written examination plays a big role in determining your fate but apart from that you will be made to go through a series of procedures and it is important to fare well in all of those stages. Selection procedure includes:
Scheme of Examination: For the exam you generally have to face objective type of questions and the paper needs to be finished in two hours' time. Few sections of the paper can be answered either in english or hindi depending on the language you choose and the maximum marks alloted for the paper will be 100 marks. Please Note: CDS II Examination 2012: 16/09/12 To prepare for this exam you can use some of the books i have mentioned here. CDS exam stands for combined defence accdemy which is conducted by upsc twice in a year. In order to prepare for UPSC CDS Exam, candidates must plan a time table or schedule. Candidates must understand the exam pattern of the Combined Defence Services Examination. The test takers must be aware about the syllabus of the exam, so as to prepare systematically. Syllabus of the Combined Defence Services Examination must be on the tips of the test takers. Candidates must give adequate time to each section/subject of the examination. Test takers must clarify their doubts or confusions with the help of various books and other study materials. Test takers must practice various sample papers available for the UPSC CDS Exam. Candidates must possess ample information about the latest or current events about their state, nation and world at large. The "Combined Defence Services" Examination is conducted twice a year by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment into the Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Naval Academy and Air Force Academy. The Notification for the examination is usually released in the months of October and June, and the examinations are conducted in February and September respectively. Only unmarried graduates are eligible to sit for the exam. Successful candidates are admitted into the respective Academies after an interview conducted by the Services Selection Board (SSB).
Eligibility Criteria: For Indian Military Academy/Officers' Training Academy: Degree from a recognized university or equivalent For Naval Academy: B.Sc. with Physics & Mathematics or Bachelor of Engineering For Air Force Academy: Degree of a recognized University with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level or Bachelor of Engineering Age Limit: Indian Military Academy 19-24 years Air Force Academy 19-23 years Naval Academy 19-22 years Officers’ Training Academy 19-25 years (not before 2 June) Scheme of Examination: Indian Military Academy / Naval Academy / Air Force Academy All the papers are of objective type: English 100 General Knowledge 100 Elementary Mathematics 100 Total 300 Officers' Training Academy: All the papers are of objective type. English 100 General Knowledge 100 Total 200 Candidates successful in the written exam are then called for an interview by a Services Selection Board which evaluates a candidate's suitability for a career in the Indian Armed Forces. The SSB interview lasts for approximately a week, during which a candidate undergoes various physical and psychological tests to ascertain whether or not he is officer material. Candidates cleared by the SSB are finally admitted into the above mentioned academies, and after successful completion of training, they are inducted into the armed forces. CDS Exam Syllabus 2012 :
English ( Code No. 01 ) The question paper will be designed to test the candidates’ understanding of English and workmanlike use of words. General Knowledge ( Code No. 02 ) General Knowledge including knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject. The paper will also include questions on History of India and Geography of a nature which candidate should be able to answer without special study. Elementary Mathematics ( Code No. 03 ) Arithmetic : Number System-Natural numbers, Integers, Rational and Real numbers. Fundamental operations addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, Square roots, Decimal fractions. Unitary method-time and distance, time and work, percentages, applications to simple and compound interest, profit and loss, ratio and proportion, variation. Elementary Number Theory- Division algorithm. Prime and composite numbers. Tests of divisibility by 2,3,4,5,9 and 11. Multiples and factors. Factorisation Theorem. H.C.F. and L.C.M. Euclidean algorithm, Logarithms to base 10, laws of logarithms, use of logarithmic tables. Algebra : Basic Operations, simple factors, Remainder Theorem, H.C.F., L.C.M. Theory of polynomials, solutions of quadratic equations, relation between its roots and coefficients ( Only real roots to be considered ). Areas of figures which can be split up into these figures (Field Book), Surface area and volume of cuboids, lateral surface and volume of right circular cones and cylinders, surface area and volume of spheres. Statistics : Collection and tabulation of statistical data, Graphical representation frequency polygons, histograms, bar charts, pie charts etc. Measures of central tendency. Intelligence and personality test : In addition to the interview the candidates will be put to Intelligence Tests both verbal and non-verbal, designed to assess their basic intelligence. They will also be put to Group Tests such as group discussions, group planning, outdoor group tasks, and asked to give brief lectures on specified subjects. All the best |
