Minimum qualification required to become an IPS officer?


What is the minimum qualification required to become an IPS officer? Can someone please let me know the criteria followed for me to apply? It will be really helpful if you can get back to me with the complete details. Awaiting for the response.

IPS Officers are recruited through Civil Services exam conducted by UPSC. For appearing in this exam, you should meet these given requirements.
  • You must have completed graduation in any stream from recognized college/institute affiliated from University.
  • If you are from General category, then your age must not exceed 32 years. For OBC, upper age limit is 35 years. For SC/ST: 37 years and for Physically challenged persons: 42 years.
  • Likewise, maximum attempts for General is 6. For OBC: 9. SC/ST: Till Upper age limit. Physically disabled: 9 (for General/OBC), till Upper Age limit (SC/ST).

IPS is Indian Police Services. The competitive entrance examination for joining this service is conducted by Union Public Service Commission. The name of examination is Civil Services examination.

Qualification required to apply for exam is:

Bachelor's degree is minimum academic qualification required to apply for this entrance examination.

Age limit is 21-32 years. There are certain upper age relaxations applicable to candidates of reserved category. It is three years for OBC and five years for SC/ST candidates.

Stages of this exam:

Preliminary examination.

Main examination.

Personal interview.

Notification for 2018 Civil Services exam will be released in February, 2018.

To be an IPS ( Indian Police Service ) officer you need to qualify Civil Services examination which is held once every year by UPSC.

* Further the minimum eligibility criteria for appearing in Civil Services examination (to be an IPS officer) are as following :-

i) You must hold the citizenship of India.

ii) Your age must lie in between 21 years to 32 years. Age relaxation is applicable for reserved category candidates as per the government norms.

iii) You must have either completed your graduation degree course or must be in the final year of same degree with any stream of your choice from a recognized university.

iv) You must hold physical fitness as per the service requirement for this wing of Civil Services ( IPS ).

#The minimum educational qualification required to apply for IPS exam conducted by UPSC every year is Graduation in any discipline from recognised institution/university.
#Age limit to apply for IPS examination is 21-32 years and the age relaxations are 3 years for OBC candidates & 5 years for SC/ST candidates.
#And the selection procedure of IPS examination is preliminary exam,main examination,personal interview and medical test.
#And the physical requirements are 165 cm height for men and 150 cm height for women.
