Certainly appearing for the NET exam is must if you wish to make a career in the field of teaching. Nowadays most of the institutes insists that the applicants should have cleared this exam. Also it is mandatory if you wish to draw the UGC payscale. The salary without it will be low. You need to select the subjects based on the area of specialisation at the masters level. So start preparing early as the next exam is scheduled for December.

Hi.

Just as you say, your theory is good and that you have a faith that you can shine in the teaching profession. NET exam is for you. You appear in this, and if you can make a mark then you would be a UGC recognized lecturer or professor. Here are some details about the NET exam.

NET stands for National Eligibility Test

The National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) every year. It is conducted to determine eligibility of candidates for the lectureship and to award Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).

It is conducted twice a year i. e; during the month of June and December. The advertisement about this exam will be published through leading newspapers during the months of March and September respectively.

Eligibility Criteria for NET exam:

1. The candidates must have completed masters course in the desired subject.

2. They must have scored a minimum of 55% from any recognized college under UGC recognition.

3. Final year candidates can also attend the NET exam.

4. 35 years is the maximum age limit. However a relaxation of 3 and 5 years are given to the OBC, and SC/ST candidates.

Pattern of NET exam

The question paper of NET constitutes the following subjects ;

Paper 1 would be of the Objective Type in which General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Reasoning Ability and Quantitative Methods would be checked. About 50 questions would be asked which constitutes of 100 Marks.
