i have done mechanical engg. and want to join merchant navy.
will you please tell me the future scope for a mechanical engg and also the fee structure and placement in this field.

Hello friend,
Since you are a mechanical engineer, you are eligible to join merchant navy as engine cadet/junior engineer. Along with a bachelor degree in engineering, you will have to undergo a pre-sea training. The pre-sea training is conducted by MERI (Marine Engineering & Research Institute) Mumbai. The Duration of this course is 1 year. The fees for this course is around Rs. 1,40,000/- including messing, uniform and accommodation. The advertisement for this course will be published in Employment News and other leading news papers in the month of November.
After successful completion of the pre-sea training, you can join Merchant Navy in the engineering department.

You can join as Engineer in any of the company for merchant navy and promoted upto chief engineer.You can apply for jobs by forwarding your resume directly to the shipping company or on sites have jobs providing websites like www.timesjob.com

Yes you can join navy through CDS ie Combined defence services.
Combined Defence Service exam is conducted by UPSC twice every year for recruitment to office cadre of the Army, Navy and Air force. CDS exam is conducted generally in the months of May and October.
Candidates qualifying the written test are interviewed by the Service Selection Board and if finally selected, depending upon the choice given by the candidates and their merit list ranking, are sent to one of the following institutes for orientation training:
(a) Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun
(b) Naval Academy, Goa
(c) Air Force Academy, Begumpet, Hyderabad
(d) Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai

For Naval Academy: B.Sc. with Physics and/or Mathematics or Bachelor of Engineering.
For Naval Academy: Unmarried male candidates between 19-22 years on 1st January or 1st July of the year succeeding; the year of examination.
Examination
Plan of the Examination: The examination comprises:
(a) Written Examination
(b) Interview for intelligence and personality test of such candidates as may be called for interview at one of the Services Selection Centers

English - This paper tests the understanding of the English language.
General Knowledge - This tests the general knowledge, current events, history of India, geography of nature and other matters of everyday observation.
Elementary Mathematics - This paper covers arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and statistics.

For Getting into Engine Department of Merchant Navy, one has to start career from the post of "Fifth or Junior Engineer" which ultimately lead to Chief Engineer.

Qualification Required: A degree in Marine or Mechanical or electrical Engineering from a recognised Institute. MArine engineering holder will get in directly while Mechanical and Elecrical has to undergone 10 months Pre-Sea Training in MArine engineering, which is either offered by recruiting company or candidate has to born itself.


Eligibility: First class first pass.

Age Limit: 25 years.

Scope: Carer in Mechant Navy has never witness such a tremendous prospects. There are 40% shortage of Chief Engineers and Captains in shipping industry. Whereas for junior level engineers and officers it is 30%. An the rate of growth of Shipping Industry in India is almost 22%.

Since Shipping Industry or Trade Or Merchandise comprises 95% of the whole World's Trade. MErchant NAvy has become one stop solution for Lucaretive and properous career.


The money is good in this field. You could start off with as much as Rs 20,000 per month starting and work up to 1.5 - 2 lakh a month.


If you work for foreign vessels then well you will earn in dollars. Your gross salary can be as much as Rs. 4 lakh a month at the top of your career. You are usually allowed 4-months leave every year. Items like imported liquor, cigarettes are all duty-free on board.

U can join merchant navy as junior engineer. u will have to pass pre-sea training which is conducted by meri. u will have to pay aroun one lakh fifty thousands for the course. read employement news every week. GOOD LUCK

You have a great scope in merchant navy. You can join as a maritime engineer. You can check with SCI web page for any recruitment activities. It would be better if you join merchant navy through SCI as it is an govt. organisation, so it is safe.

At this moment scope in marine engineer too dull since job is too hard to get since so many college has introduce this course. And its very tough get at entry level now,

you can join in indian navy mainly in two ways.

1.through UES. which exam you can appear in the final year of your btech in mechanical engineering.

2.through UPSC exam. which exam you can appear after doing your btech.

there have many other options too

1.TDS.

2.CDS.

etc.

SIR I aM puneet bhalla.....i have completed 12th grade with 65% in aggregate and 54% in my pcm. ......i want to join merchant navy .....IT SaID IF ONCE WE JOIN NaVY WE WILL BE into the sea only for all the time and when will get retired we will just have a degree of bsc nautical science or the other,......i dont want any type of work related to bsc as i dont have interests in it.......so should i first do my btech and then get into navy or should i directly go into navy as a deck cadet..........i want to join it write now only.....but i have heard from people around me that we must do btech.......because with bsc degree i will not enjoy further as told earlier i have no interests in it..........please guide me sir ..........
