There are no special optionals for the students who are from IT/CSE the available options are listed below

Mathematics
Agriculture
Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
Botany
Chemistry
Civil Engineering
Commerce
Economics
Electrical Engineering
Geography
Geology
Indian History
Law
Mathematics
Management
Mechanical Engineering
Medical Science
Philosophy
Physics
Political Science
Psychology
Public

By this you can get one thing clearly that you have no subjects that are related to Com Science or IT so you have to select the subjects relatingly

like as we learnt a lot of maths in engineering it will be beneficial if you select Maths as your optional

like wise Geography(We have introduction of this till our 10th)

if you are interested you can also select

psychology

philosphy

geography

and like

But choosing an optional should come from your Interest not by suggestion by others because you are going to spend time and read it not others who are suggesting

Think wise before you take decision

Hello friend,
The selection of optional papers in the main exam of civil service must be based on your expertise and interest. Candidates have to choose any two subjects from the following list:
Agriculture Mathematics, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Mechanical Engineering, Botany, Medical Science, Chemistry, Philosophy, Civil Engineering, Physics, Commerce,Political Science ,Economics ,Psychology Electrical Engineering Public Administration, Geography, Sociology, Geology, Statistics, Indian History, Zoology,Law.

Since you have to choose any two subject, you can not select the following combination of subjects
Political Science & International Relations and Public Administration
Commerce and Management
Anthropology and Sociology
Maths and Statistics
Agriculture and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
Management and Public Administration
Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science and Medical Science
Any two branches of engineering

As you can see that you can not select subjects from the same stream, you have to pick the subjects very wisely. You may select any subject no matter which stream you belong to. Its advisable to see the syllabus of the subjects before picking it up. Try to select subjects which has shorter syllabus and you are familiar with.

i m btech final year student ,i wanna crack ias exam .but some confusion to choose optional paper. as i hhave concern my math is good and also i m intrested in but senior students say that it is tough and no proper choching or material avilable, also sujjest me other optional paper having less syllabus with scoring.

List of Optional Subjects :- I.A.S(Main)

• Agriculture
• Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science

You can select any one of the subjects from above mentioned.So don't worry choose the subject according to the your interest.My suggestion can select the this subjects Indian History,Geography,Philosophy.It is useful for this.

The candidate age should be 21 years to 30 years and upper age relaxation for SC/ST and OBC category.

I am doing engg In computer science which subject I should select for IAS exam
