You can take up any degree in any stream so as to apply for IPS post. There is no specification on subjects to be taken for graduation for this post. The only criterion remains that the degree should be taken from a recognized institute. Lower age limit for this post is 21 years. Higher age limit is specified as 30 years. UPSC Civil services need to be attended for this post. On clearing this, physical test and personal interview need to be also attended.

Any degree is good enough for Indian Police Service. As long as the course and the university is recognized by the government, there is no issue in applying for the Indian Police Service.

When I say any degree it includes the following:

Bachelor of Arts

MBBS

Bachelor of Commerce

Bachelor of Science

Bachelor of Computer Applications

Bachelor of Technology

Bachelor of Business Administration

All of the above any many others are accepted for the Indian Police Service. You will have to appear for the Civil Services Examination by the Union Public Service Commission. Only upon clearing this exam you will become IPS officer.

Eligibility Criteria

1. You should have Indian citizenship.

2. There is a need of bachelor degree.

3. No minimum percentage criteria.

4. If younger than 21 years, then you are not eligible.

5. Anyone older than 30 is also not eligible.

6. OBC can apply till 33 years.

7. SC/ST are allowed by UPSC to appear till 35 years.

Selection Process

The Civil Services Examination has 3 critical stages.

Preliminary Exam

The first stage is preliminary exam. It is only a qualifying exam where your purpose is not clear the exam to appear for Main exam. You will have to clear 2 written tests to clear this entrance exam.

Main Exam

There are 9 written tests which you will have to clear. Their combine score will be your final tally.

Dear Friend,

If you want to become an IPS Officer, then degree doesn`t mean a lot because even if you have a Master`s degree in any discipline you cannot become an IPS Officer.

The Main thing through which you can become an IPS Officer is the Civil Services Exam. If you crack the Civil Services Exam only then you can become an IPS Officer.

The Civil Services Exam is conducted every year by the Union Public Services Commission.

Through this examination, candidates can join the following services :

* Indian Administrative Services

* Indian Police Services

* Indian Revenue Services

* Indian Foreign Services

The Basic eligibility Criteria Required for Civil Services Exam are :

1) The minimum educational qualification required is Graduation in any stream from any recognized college/university.

2) Candidates pursuing graduation in final year can also apply.

3) The candidate must be a citizen of India or A Subject of Nepal or a Subject of Bhutan.

4) The Candidate`s age must lie in between 21-30 years if you belong to Open Category.

5) The age limit for OBC Candidates is 21-33 years whereas for SC/ST Candidates it is 21-35 years.

6) Number Of Attempts Allowed :

- For General Candidates : 4

- For OBC Candidates : 7

- For SC/ST Candidates : No limit

So , Graduation in any stream from any recognized college/university is the minimum education qualification or better say degree that you must have to take on the Civil Services Exam.

This is the information i have to the best of my knowledge regarding your query. Hope the information will help you to the extent you want.
