What is the difference between Computer Engineering and IT? Can a person with aptitude and interest in Computer Engineering opt for IT? What are the job opportunities in both?
My son after HSC wanted to do Computer Engineering, but due to lack of seats, he got admission in Information Technology. What is the difference? Can a person whose aptitude and interest is Computer Engineering opt for Information Technology? What are the job options in both?? Which field is in much demand??

hai sir,
the main difference in both is if ur son did b.tech in computers,he can be eligible for both hardware and software engineering recruitements.if he did i.t then he can gain only knowledge in computer languages and he is eligible for only software engineering.as my point of view its better to opt for computer engineering. |

computer engineering means combination of both hard ware and software as the name reflects ,so u will be having knowledge of both computer hardware as well as software..but IT includes only knowledge about software but in depth knowledge in software..so it is on the student to opt for computer or It stream....

Both branches are very similar.only 1-2 subjects are changed per semister. So dont worry about your son's future. There are so many options for both engineers. If there is only option for IT then you can choose this branch. You can also apply for a computer engineer job. The main diffrence is computer engineer have knowledge about both the fields like hardware and software. And the other one IT engineer have knowledge about only software. Computer engineer are called programmer. So if you are a good programmer than you can get a job easily. There is no need to worry. All the best |
