Re: What is the qualification required for IPS?
You will have to complete graduation, if haven't done already, to apply for the Indian Police Service. Once you have completed graduation, you can appear for the Civil Services Examination for the Indian Police Service.
If you are yet to decide course for graduation then I would recommend you to pick course which has provide you job in the scenario of not making the cut for Indian Police Service. You should have backup option in such scenario. The job of IPS officer is to maintain law and order. While the selection is done by the central government, IPS officers work under state governments. They are given different departments like Anti Terror Squad (ATS) or Intelligence Wing etc. The responsibility is to maintain law and order. Apart from that IPS officers provide VIP security and even take part in anti terror operations. Some IPS officers are later promoted to other agencies like Intelligence Bureau, Central Bureau of Investigation, RAW etc. IPS Eligibility 1. Only Indian nationals can apply for it. 2. You should have a graduation degree. 3. There is no marks criteria. 4. Age limit is 21 to 30 years for the exam. 5. There is 3 years relaxation for OBC. 6. The relaxation is 5 years for SC/ST. Physical Requirements 1. Height: 165 cm (Male) and 150 cm (Female) 2. There is 5 cm relaxation for ST. 3. Chest: 79 cm (Female) and 84 cm (Male) with 5 cm expansion. Number of Attempts 1. General: 4 attempts 2. OBC: 7 attempts 3. SC/ST: There is no limit. Selection Procedure 1. Preliminary Exam 2. Main Exam 3. Interview |
