What to study to become a Customs Officer?
What should I study in order to become a Custom Officer? What type of jobs are available in Customs? How much is there salary?

There are two ways to become Custom Officer. One is through UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) CSE (Civil Service Examination) and second one is through to SSC CGL.
- Through UPSC you will become Asst. Commissioner in Central Board of Excise and Customs in Indian Revenue Service. - You have to clear 2 objective examinations in prelims, 9 written papers in mains and Interview in order to get through IRS. - Your starting salary in 5400 GP will be around 70000. - Through SSC CGL you will become Examiner, Preventive Officer (Customs). - You have to clear prelims, mains, descriptive test in order to become Customs officer in this grade. - Your initial salary in 4600 GP will be around 60000. - You have to brush up your general studies part for UPSC and English, Mathematics for SSC CGL. |

To become Custom Officer you have to appear and qualify in Civil Service examination which is conducted by UPSC every year.
The required qualification to appear in examination is that :- Candidate must have passed bachelor degree in any discipline. Final year candidates are also eligible to apply. Candidate's age must be between 21-32 years relaxation in upper age limit. The examination is conducted in three stages and you have to qualify in all stages for final selection. For becoming a custom's officer first you need to complete your's degree or equivalent then you need to apply for the position of Indian Customs and Central Excise Service when ever the notification is released and then you need to clear all the levels of examination.If you are through with all the levels including physical tests then you will be placed as custom's officer.
Airport Customs Officer is one type of job in customs. Salary will be around 222,708 rupees per year. |

There is no limitation on discipline of degree to appear in Civil Service examination. So, you can pursue any stream to appear in examination.
But if you want the syllabus in detail you can visit at official website of UPSC at www.upsc.gov.in. The examination is conducted in three stages and candidates have to qualify in all for final recruitment. The examination paper contains questions of General Science, Social Studies ( History, Political Science, Geography, Economics ) Ethics, Arts and Culture. So, you have to pursue all these books and good current Affairs to qualify in all stages of examination. The salary varies with sector in which you are recruited. |
