List of reference books for IPS officer exam


Myself Baji, I am in B.Tech 3rd year. I want to become an IPS officer. I want detail explanation about IPS like preliminary exam papers weightage of marks number of papers. Cut off marks and duration of exam mains paper weightage gap between preliminary and mains exam. Which books should be referred. Please mail me [email protected].

IPS stands for Indian Police Services. In order to become IPS officer, a candidate must clear all stages of Civil Services examination. There are three stages of this exam, preliminary, mains and interview.

>>Preliminary exam consists of two papers, General studies and CSAT. General studies papers consists of questions from History, Polity, Geography, Economics, current affairs and culture etc. You need to score minimum of 120 marks or more out of 200 marks in General studies paper to clear it. It is of two hours duration. CSAT paper is qualifying, you only need to score 33% marks.

>>Those who clear preliminary appear for mains exam. Mains exam is of 1750 marks. It consists of two compulsory language qualifying paper, Essay paper, four General studies paper, two optional paper. It is generally conducted after 4-5 months after preliminary exam. Last stage is interview of 275 marks.

>>History by Bipan Chandra.

>>Ecology by Shankar IAS academy.

>>Economy by Ramesh Singh.

>>Cover all NCERT books.

>>Read daily newspapers of last one year for current affairs.

To become IPS officer you have to prepare for union public service commission exam
Reference books for IPS exam are-

1. General Studies For Civil Services Preliminary Examination TMH. (GS Problem Solving)
2. IPS (Pre.) Solved Papers General Studies with CSAT Papers Arihant
3. IPS Prelims 20 Years General Studies Topic-Wise Solved Papers Disha publication

You can solve previous years question papers.

List of reference books for Civil Services examination:

1. Our Constitution by Subash C Kashyap.

2. India's Ancient Sharma by R.S Sharma.

3. Indian Economy: Ramesh Singh.

4. Indian Polity by M. Laxmikant.

5. Modern Indian History by Bipan Chandra.

6. Geography by G C Leong etc.

Preliminary Paper structure: 100 questions of 200 marks. Civil Services Aptitude test paper is qualifying, you just need to score 33% marks in it. Cut off marks varies every year. To be on safe side, in 2017 you can aim to score more than 130 marks.
