There are two posts recruited in Income Tax Department which are directly related to income tax :

Income Tax Inspector Group B non gazetted post

Tax Assistant Group C post

To become an Income Tax Inspector you need to qualify SSC Combined Graduate Level Examination which is conducted in following manner every year by SSC

SSC CGL Tier I examination : Four subjects are asked which are :

General Intelligence and Reasoning - 50 questions for 50 marks.
Quantitive Aptitude - 50 questions for 50 marks.
English Language - 50 questions for 50 marks.
General Awareness - 50 questions for 50 marks.

Total number of questions for 200 for 200 marks. and qualifying in this exam is compulsory to be eligible for mains or Tier II examination.

SSC CGL Tier II examination pattern :

Quantitive Aptitude and Mathematics - 100 questions for 200 marks.

English Language and Comprehension - 200 questions for 200 marks.

Qualifying in mains examination is necessary to be eligible for interview process for Group B inspector post.

Now you need to appear for interview process so just be prepared well for interview and qualify and if your marks of prelims and mains exam with interview marks comes enough for the post then you will be declared qualified for the post.

If you could not qualify interview then you will become Tax Assistant so this is the advantage in this examination so work hard.

Yes dear you have a chance to apply for the Income Tax officer through SSC CGL and for this you must complete the graduation with minimum percentage of marks from the recognized university.

That to you should have a age in between 21 to 32 years excluding with the age relaxation.

You need to write CGL for Income Tax officer and CHSL for Income Tax Assistant.

The selection process of CGL will be based on below pattern

1.Tier I (200 marks )

2.Tier II (400 marks )

3.Interview (100 marks )

And total examination will be for 700 marks and this examination is conducted by the UPSC once in a year.
