M.Phil is mandatory to study PhD for Geology post graduate?

Hello Friends, I did my M.A. in Geology from Kumaun University. I am fond of doing PhD in Geology. But many of my friends are telling me that M.Phil is must to do before PhD. So, is it true?

No, it is not mandatory to opt for M.Phil course after the completion of MA in Geology. You can directly opt for PhD course through NET examination after the completion of MA degree course. You should score a minimum of 55% of marks in your MA degree to be eligible for it.
Candidates those who have completed their Masters degree in Geology from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% of marks in it are eligible to opt for the Ph.D course in Geology.
Do you have any question? or have anything to say?
