I have done my Diploma in Electronics & Communication with first class with distinction from Karnataka. Now I am studying B.tech in Information technology.
But due to some reason I wanna quit IT and want to join Merchant Navy for job.

Is it possible to get a job in merchant navy directly after the diploma? If so then please notify me with required details.

The Merchant Navy which is the non-combatant commercial fleet deals primary is transporting cargo and on some occassions passengers via sea. A job in Merchant Navy is considered very presigious. You not only get well paid for the job but there is a sense of adventure, traveling the seven seas.

The opportunities in Merchant Navy are plenty thanks to large private investment in port development and sea trade in India. More than 70 percent of the trade is done via sea routes. Now you can imagine how crucial is the role of Merchant Navy.

Apart from good salary the Merchant navy jobs also mean attractive perks. One example is free food at the port of entire crew and some officer level jobs allow you to bring your wife on the journey.

As far as your question goes, yes it is possible to join Merchant Navy after completing the diploma in Engineering course however you can only apply for for jobs like deck cadet that are offered via direct entry. You are not going to get job in the Engineering department of the Merchant Navy.

If you want to get better jobs in Merchant Navy, that are related to Engineering department then I would suggest that you do B.Tech course in Mechanical/Electrics/Telecommunications etc.



Eligibility

The best jobs in Merchant Navy are officer level jobs in Engineering and navigational fields. To get one of these, candidate is required to pursue either B.Tech in Marine Engineering or B.Sc in Nautical Science.

1. To apply these courses you need to pass 12th standard with PCM as the subjects.

2. You also need at least 60 percent marks in 12th board.

3. Those interested in B.Tech would require to appear in entrance exams like IIT-JEE.

4. The age limit is 20 years as on September 1 of the admission year.

5. There is five years relaxation in upper age for SC/ST.

6. Both genders are welcome to join but they should be unmarried at the time of admission.

7. You would have to go through medical test.

8. Some physical requirements include 6/6 vision, no color blindess, height should be at least 150cm.


Direct Entry

You are eligible for the direct entry in the Marine Engineering therefore read the below section carefully.

You can apply for Deck Cadet job for which you will have to go through pre-sea training. This training is arranged by the recruiting company and only after passing the training course, you would get the job.

You can join Mrechant Navy on the basis of your 12th marksheet also. But it is important that you had scored above 60% in pcm in 12th std. and also you have to clear the IMU exam after that you can join any merchant navy institute. If you want to choose the deck side then first you have to complete ypur 1 year course, then 18 months sailing as a deck cadet and then you will become an officer of deck side. for the engineering side on ship you have to complete a course of 4 years.

To apply for the merchant navy it is necessary that you have complete your 10+2 with Physics , Chemistry and math subjects and passed from any recognized university with first class atleast 65% marks...
If you have scored very good marks in your 10+2 class than you can apply for the Merchant Navy after taking the NDA exam conducted by UPSC in twice in a year...
For the exam Your age should be above from 17.5 years and below from 21 years...
You should be a citizen of India.
You should be physical fit and fine..
You should not have wear glasses

I clearly mentioned that I did my diploma in ece after doing 10th.

you can join the merchant navy course and you are absolutely eligible for it. The minimum requirement for join merchant navy is 10 + 2 with PCM with at least 50% marks. You have to sit for the exam conducted by UPSC if you get good score then only you get selected.

To become a officers youa have to need the following eligibility:

3 year degree course in Nautical Science for (10+2) students.
4 year degree course in Marine Engineering for (10+2) students.
2 year course for Diploma Holders.

1 year course for Graduate Mechanical Engineers.
3 month course for Deck Cadets for (10+2) students.

AGE LIMIT:
you must not be more than 20 years. 5 years relaxtion for the SC/ST caste.
