I am doing my Diploma in Mech Engg 2nd year am i Eligible to take up MERCHANT NAVY as my career ??

No you cannot join as you need to have 12th with PCM or graduation in Mechanical Engineering.

u can join merchant navy after diploma there is 2 yrs study and 1yr training......\

The Merchant Navy is a non-combatant commercial fleet which deals with transporting cargo, container, barge, tankers, bulk and passengers.
The commercial purpose of the fleet is to provide opportunities for engineers and navigators.


♦ Types of courses :

If you want to be a part of Merchant Navy, then you must have passed 12th with Science stream.

• B.E. Marine engineering
Duration : 4 years.
Eligibility : 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, mathematics (PCM) and English.

• B.S.C. Nautical Science
Duration : 3 years
Eligibility : 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (PCM) and English.

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
Duration : 2 years

• Graduate in Mechanical Engineering
Duration : 1 years

• Deck Cadet
Duration : 3 months

♦ Courses available for 10th Pass students in Science stream :

• Pre-sea course
Duration : 4 months

• Deck rating
Duration : 3 months

• Engine rating
Duration : 3 months

• Sailon rating
Duration : 4 months

To get admission in these courses, you have to pass through a Common Entrance Test conducted by the government of India.


♦ Eligibility Requirements :

• You must have passed 10+2.

• The maximum age limit is 20 years. Those belonging to the SC/ST have relaxation by about 5 years.
