How to Prepare for Indian Economic/Statistical Services Exam?
Union Public Service Commission holds the Indian Economic/Statistical Service Exam. This examination is carried out to recruit Grade IV officers for Indian Economic Service and Indian Statistical Service. This test is regularly held in the month of November. ISS and IES are services under the central government. These services are involved, in economic analysis and planning.
Vacancies in these services come up in the planning commission, state board and other government owned bodies. The selected applicants are placed in the planning commission. They can also get chance in ministry of economic affairs. For qualifying in IES, they should have finished graduation with statistics or economics. To appear for ISS, they should have passed graduation with Statistics or Mathematics or Economics.
Structure of Indian Economic/Statistical Services Exam
The Entrance test consists of written test and viva examination. The written exam includes of essay type questions. The duration of every paper is 3 hours. The written exam carries 900 marks. The IES test will have questions from General English, General studies, General Economics I, General Economics II and Indian Economics. The ISS test will have questions from General English, General Studies, Statistics I, Statistics II and Statistics III. The applicants who have cleared the written test can appear for Viva. This test carries maximum of 250 marks. The General English paper questions are asked to test the understanding of English language.

Hi Sir,
This is Ravi from Hyderabad, preparing for Indian Statistical Service, 2012, Please can you guide me regarding the reference books for statistics. I am already having Fundamentals of Mathematical Statistics , Fundamentals of Applied Statistics in which the total syllabus is not covered. Please suggest me some reference books in this regard.
