At present a huge percentage of students go abroad in different destinations like U.S, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand etc as for higher studies. Prospective students need to prepare for GRE exam for admission to MS programs in most of the top most colleges abroad. They will have to appear in different English language tests like TOEFL or IELTS too. In most universities abroad this is the basic criterion which the students have to meet while applying for different courses.

In most of the countries abroad, Universities fall under two foremost groups. One is the public (state supported) and the other is the private (independent) institutions. The cost of the tuition will vary in each of these institutions.

Application Procedures

Candidate who wishes to apply in any of these institution need to send an enquiry at least 15 to 18 month before the date of admission as to get the application forms. Applicants can request application forms by means of email from the universities website. The majority of universities have an online form which can be submitted online. Another option is to apply for the application form through Airmail. The request letter must have all the description of the applicant’s educational background, educational objectives, foundation of financial support, English know-how and relevant test scores. An additional option is also on hand for the applicants. They can directly download the application form from the university website.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicants must have educational qualifications similar to a Bachelor’s (Honours) degree in the chosen country. This is equivalent to a bare minimum of 16 years of formal schooling plus additional qualification like professional four-year degree.

General Criteria

Another general criterion for MS is to have a Graduate degree from a highly ranked school with excellent scores. The applicants must have a TOEFL score more than 570 if it is paper-based and a computer score 230. As for IELTS the score must be more than 6.5. In the GRE the verbal score must be more than 400 and the analytical score has to be above 4.0 as to be considered acceptable. Again minimum score and cut off in these exams varies for each university.

Application Requirements

The past academic records are the most significant deciding aspect for securing an admission in any college abroad. As for Master’s and Doctoral degree excellent educational records is a must have. Every university has its own set of requirements for admission. For example different universities in USA have a marking and assessment system. These colleges follow a GPA (Grade Point Average) system, which follows a 5 point scheme.

Each student has to submit the official mark sheet availed from the concerned university from which they completed the course.

List of Admission Tests

Most of the universities and colleges, especially the top ones accept any of the standard tests available for admitting students to the various MS programs.  The test varies based on which stream, MS program is conducted. The various tests are:

• GMAT: For Management Courses.
• GRE    : For Courses other than Management.
• LSAT   : For entrance to Law Schools.
• USMLE: For entrance to Medical Colleges.

Similarly colleges accept any one of the English Proficiency tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TWE and TSE.
