In India Wren and Martin always stands for a complete guidance in the English language. Last year one of the multinational houses in our country held a recruitment drive in the major Engineering institutes across the country. It was a massive recruitment drive. Hopes were on the sky it was considered as a greater employment opportunity for the budding engineers. But when the actual result came up the expectations were shattered. Only a handful of graduates were selected. The educational analysts and experts disused a lot about this great debacle.

Later the reason was identified in the studies conducted by NASSCOM. It is a proven fact that our children have their brains well developed on left but a little behind in the right side. Indians have a good amount of knowledge in the technical aspects and that can be seen in technological development happening in India by the last one decade. But we are far behind the language part, on the Global language, English.

A successful career is for one who can effectively manage the interested field along with the English language. In this one window world it is important have a proficiency in the English language. We do admire the students who have a very good knowledge in the language, but it is a fact that there are a million in our country who keep away themselves from English.

Effective knowledge in English is not only crucial for a successful career but very important for the very existence in the challenging world. If you need a flourishing career and future you need to take care of the English language along with your subjects. There may be a nationwide demand for the emphasis on mother tongue and we should not ignore it either. But you need to have expertise knowledge on the English language as part of your career and professional growth.

Here are some reasons why we meet this problem and what are the things the students need to take care while doing their studies.

More Focus on the Subjects

The recruitment drive by example is a clear evidence for the learner’s subjective knowledge and technical knowledge. Most of our engineering colleges were focusing only on the core subjects and its applications. There is a complete negligence for the language from the academic bodies. The students are also ignoring the language and give complete concentration on their subjects. The students can hardly blame on this because the evaluation is done only for the optional subjects. The grades and ranks are determined by the subjective papers.

The students in the arts and science colleges have little more grip over the language than that of the professional students because the system at least demands a minimum marks in the language. It is obvious that the professional system have a heavy syllabus than that of other streams, but compete ignorance is not appreciable.

The students have to put on effort from here to improve skills in English. You should develop a habit of reading in English, not necessary that you  read literature, but reading news papers really help you to improve on the language skills. It may be difficult to concentrate on the international news or the business world by watching the CNN IBN or NDTV. But you may be interested in watching the English movies. The movies also help you lot on improving your English.

Threats by the Corporate Colleges

As part of making the professional course more accessible to the aspirants, the Government gives recognition to more corporate and private institutions and that contribute to the poor quality in the English language.

The board of Intermediate has developed a special one year syllabus for the professional students and in most of the corporate colleges it is taught in 15-30 days, only for the sake of covering the topic. The Government should act here. Clear monitoring should be done in all the professional colleges. How the curriculum is carried out and how effective is the teaching should be observed. The students can also demand for the needed attention towards these issues.

What My Tongue Says???

The mother tongue influence is the common problem among the students. We are always influenced by our local or regional language and whatever we pronounce this language leave its identity there. There is no demand for the Oxford English from the employer’s side but a demand for Good English is always there.

These problems can be sorted by the collective initiation from the Government, the academic institution as well as the student side. We need both our mother tongue and the global language. The English language should get its needed consideration that makes our children to perform well in the Group discussions and interviews and also make them well-versed in projects writings. The students from the English medium background have certain knowledge on grammar but lacks in the reading part. This may not affect them in the communication point but shows difficulty in grasping the knowledge. Still Wren and Martin can make a lot of difference while you prepare for career aspirations. There are many more packages for learning the language and also so many language centers are there in our country which helps you to be good in the language. The efforts will work only if you have a strong desire for that.

There is no point of thinking that our brain is tuned to the technical part only because we have a list of student who won the International Spelling Bee and the similar type competitions. This is not the world to say A B C D… it is the OMG world….
