Graduates or Post Graduates in subjects like Electronics & Communication and Engineering and Computer Science Engineering can apply for Ph.D (ECE) in IIIT-D. Admissions are offered on the basis of written test, interview, academic background and references. Written test comprises of questions on Digital Circuits, Probability, Circuit Theory and so on. In the interview round candidates are asked to write small programming codes along with other technical based questions.

Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D (ECE) in IIIT-D

B.Tech / B.E / M.Tech / M.S / M.E are the basic qualification required to apply. Required qualification should be obtained from a recognized institute in any of the following subjects.

  • Electronics & Communication Engineering
  • Electrical and Electronics Engineering
  • Computer Science Engineering
  • Information Technology

GATE score is mandatory to apply for fresh B.Tech graduates. Eligible candidate should have at least 75% marks or distinction in the corresponding degree. Those having at least 7.5 CGPA from reputed institutions like IITs/NITs or toppers (top 10% in his/her batch) from any institute will be given preference.

M.Sc holders having obtained the qualification in any of the above mentioned subjects can also apply. Such candidates must have completed their graduation in the concerned subject itself. Here also, the cut off marks required is 75% or above. Relaxation in specific requirements will be provided for candidates with high GATE/GRE scores.

Applicant is preferred to have adequate knowledge in algorithms, theory of electronics, problem solving and programming.

Selection Procedure for Ph.D (ECE) in IIIT-D

Admission of eligible candidates is done after evaluating candidate’s performance in written test and interview. Written test comprises of two sections, Part A and Part B. Part A includes questions in Calculus, Probability and Circuit Theory where as in Part B, there will be questions on Digital Circuits, Analog Circuits and Communication Systems. In part B there will be three subsections, based on each topic and candidate needs to answer only one subsection. No fixed pattern is there for the entrance test. There will be a combination of multiple choice questions, fill in the blank model questions, short answer type questions, etc. Time allotted for the completion of the test is 1 and half hours.

Those who get qualified in the written test will be considered for interview. In this section, candidates will be asked to write a small code on programming language, microcontroller programming and Verilog/VHDL. Qualified candidates in interview will be short listed for final selection. Admissions are offered after evaluating factors like academic backgrounds and references also.
