Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service, Union Public Service Commission
The Union Public Service Commission was established in the year 1926 on the 1st of October and it is a constitutional body of the Indian Government. The commission is mandated with the responsibility of conducting different examinations for recruitment of candidates to civil services in India.
Recruitment by UPSC:
UPSC has invited applications from eligible Indian citizens to apply for the Indian Statistical and Indian Economic Service Examinations. The details regarding the advertisement issued by the UPSC for the same are given below:
Name of the Examinations: Indian Statistical Service and Indian Economic Service
Number of Posts: Total number of vacancies is 65, which is divided among the two exams as follows:
• Indian Statistical Service Examination – 18
• Indian Economic Service Examination- 46
Eligibility requirements:
Educational qualification:
Indian Economic Service Examination: For applying to the Indian Economic Service Examination, candidates must have obtained a PG degree in econometrics/business economics/applied economics/economics from a recognized university.
Indian Statistical Service Examination: For applying to the Indian Statistical Service Examination, candidates must have completed their PG degree in applied statistics/mathematical statistics/statistics from a recognized university.
Age Requirement: For both examinations, candidates must be between the age group of 21 and 30 years as on the 1st of January 2011.
Selection Process:
A combined competitive examination for selection of candidates to Grade IV of the services will be held on the 3rd of December 2011 by the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation. Examination will be conducted in different centres in different cities in India.
Application Fee:
The application fee for both examinations is Rs.100.
How to apply:
Candidates fulfilling the eligibility requirements will have to apply online through the website of UPSC at http://upsconline.nic.in/mainmenu2.php between the 30th of July and 29th of August 2011. Candidates from remote areas can send the application in prescribed format through speed/registered post to the address given below, before 05th of September 2011:
