Difference between All India Council for Technical Education and University Grants Commission
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is a department under the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the Department of Higher Education. The council’s main aim is to provide students with technical education. The University Grants Commission (UGC) is an organization that is under the Union Government of India. Their aim is to coordinate, maintain and verify the standards of education in Universities.
AICTE and its Approved Courses
Technical education plays a very crucial role in the general progress of a nation. This is true in the case of our country too. In India, Technical education is instructed at different levels of certifications like degree, post graduate degree, diploma, research and post doctoral research. The AICTE also endorses postgraduate and graduate programs under some precise categories at Indian educational institutions. It has 10 chief legal boards of studies. They are: Undergraduate studies in Engineering and Technology, postgraduate research in Engineering and Technology, Pharmaceutical Education, Hotel Management and Catering Technology. Other categories include Management Studies, Information Technology, Vocational Education and Country & Town Planning in addition to Technical Education.
UGC and its Approved Courses
The UGC carries out the NET entrance exam. It is performed for the appointment of teachers in universities and colleges. Candidates who have finished their degree in M.Phil do not need the NET degree for teaching at the graduation level. A degree in NET is also not needed by those candidates who have a PhD. They are eligible to teach at the Post graduation level with this qualification alone. Candidates who clear the UGC-NET entrance exam will get employment opportunities in many colleges and universities in our country.
Key differentiators
The main distinction between the AICTE and the UGC is that, while the former is concerned with undergraduate and postgraduate programs, the latter deals with an entrance examination, namely the National Eligibility Test. This entrance exam is carried out for the admittance of interested candidates into lecture posts in universities across India.
