Aspirants who want an admission in B. Tech Information Technology Engineering through lateral entry program must possess a 3-year diploma in the concerned subject. Apart from the eligibility criteria, they must pass the entrance exam intended for the purpose. Directorate of Technical Education conducts the entrance exam for lateral entry in Calicut University. The admissions are done as per the norms and conditions put forward by Calicut University.

Those who have passed diploma exam with 60% marks in Information Technology are eligible to apply for the lateral entry program. Those students who are attending the final year diploma program held by State Board of Technical Education or any other recognized institution is also eligible to apply for this program. Apart from general candidates, SC/ST candidates will have a relaxation of 10% marks in their eligibility criterion. The candidates who apply for the lateral entry program under Calicut University must be in the age group of 25 years.

Calicut University has set aside certain reservation criteria for the selection of desired candidate through lateral entry program. Among the total seats available, 85% is reserved for Government and Management Quota. In the remaining 15 % seats, 10% is reserved for lateral entry candidates where as the remaining 5% is meant for students of NRI category. The marks scored in the diploma program along with the marks in the entrance examination are counted during the admission process. Directorate of Technical Education conducts the entrance examination for the selection process. If any seat is left unfilled under NRI or lateral entry after admission process, it will added to the group of management seats.
