The lateral entry in B.Tech is for the students who wish to join engineering courses after their Diploma in related subjects. The admission procedure is based on the entrance test conducted by the State or by the Universities. Many universities in India offers lateral entry programmes in engineering courses.

The test is carried out in various disciplines according to the candidate’s branch of study. A merit list is prepared based on the rank obtained by the students in the examination. The first preference for admission is to the students from MR-NAT merit list. And the second preference is to those from the merit list prepared on the basis of qualifying examinations.
