Government Jobs in Engineering Physics in India
Engineering Physics would be the suitable option for candidates with strong interest in physics and strong aptitude in science and engineering. Engineering Physics course is offered only a few institutions at the B. Tech level in India. Four-year Bachelor of Technology in Engineering Physics, five-year integrated Master of Technology course and five-year dual degree Mater of Technology programme in Engineering Physics is being offered by Institutes like Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) and the Banaras Hindu University Institute of Technology.
Selection of appropriate candidates for these courses is done based on the merit secured by candidates in the nation-wide IIT Joint Entrance Examination conducted once in a year. To apply for this examination, candidates must have completed their higher secondary or its equivalent qualification under regular stream of education securing not less than 60% of aggregate marks in mathematics, chemistry and physics subjects. Even candidates in the final year of their higher secondary course are eligible to apply to this examination.
Knowledge acquired by engineering physicists:
Candidates taking up engineering physics course are offered with training in the following areas:
• Applied nuclear science
• Remote sensing
• Materials physics
• Statistical mechanics
• Thermodynamics
• Quantum mechanics
• Solid state physics
• Fibre optics
• Plasma physics
• Space physics
Since candidates acquire knowledge in these fields they can enter a wide range of industries for appropriate job opportunities and organizations are also looking for graduates in engineering physics.
Career opportunities in the field of engineering physics:
Engineering Physics graduates are called as Engineering Physicists in some nations and these professionals are engaged in research and development in high-technology industries in different fields like novel materials, lasers, microdevices, microelectronics and telecommunications. Since candidates are offered with wide knowledge on applied and fundamental technologies, candidates with qualified engineering physics degree are exploring job opportunities in other field like software development, computer design, communications technology, nanotechnology and biotechnology as well. They can also go for higher degree programs so that they can find placement in research organizations or they can also offer instructions to the next generation engineering physicists.
Government jobs in the field of Engineering Physics in India:
When it comes to government jobs in engineering physics, candidates can find job placement in the following public sector organizations:
• National Physical Laboratory
• Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre
• Indian Space Research Organization
In addition to these government organizations, engineering physicists can also find job opportunities in other public sector organizations engaged in research activities in this field.
