Admissions to other engineering colleges are also done based on the performance of candidates in All India Engineering Entrance Examination or state level engineering entrance examination and even some engineering colleges conduct their own examination for admission of students to the B.E/B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering course.

Mechanical engineering being the broadest of all engineering branches, job prospects is plenty in this field. Professionals in the field of mechanical engineering are needed for designing, testing, manufacturing, installing, operating and maintaining different machines and mechanical systems that are used in different industries. In the case of candidates with UG course in Mechanical Engineering, they can apply to Indian Forest Services, government chemical firms, Public Works Department, Public Sector banks, Indian Railways, telegraphs and post and Service Commissions. Some of the popular public sector organizations like ISRO, SAIL, DRDO, ONGC, etc… appoint mechanical engineers for effectively carrying their operations. In the case of candidates with PG in Mechanical Engineering, they can find teaching positions in colleges and universities functioning under the control of government and this can be made easier for them after completing the Ph. D in Mechanical Engineering.
