Applications have been invited for pursuing Ph.D program for different subjects in Pune University. The selection of candidates is based on a written entrance test and an interview conducted by the faculty of the respective departments. Applicants are expected to apply online through the official website of the University.

Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D Entrance Test in Pune University

Candidates with post graduate or masters degree in related field with a minimum of 50% or an equivalent GPA (Grade Point Average) are eligible to apply for the program. Candidates possessing masters or post graduate degree in Law faculty with no less than 55% are also available to apply for the same. The university provides 5% reservation of seats for students from the state of Maharashtra.

The University offers sponsored seats as well. As per the new rules of the university persons working with National laboratories holding ranks of Assistant Director or above with a Masters Degree in respective field is eligible for the program. For foreign candidates or those with degree from foreign universities, 50% marks or equivalent GPA is enough to apply.

Pattern for Ph.D Entrance Test at Pune University

The selection procedure for Ph.D program at University involves an entrance test comprising of two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is a General Aptitude paper with 100 questions for a total of 100 marks. The paper includes multiple choice questions dealing with numerical ability, logical reasoning and language aptitude. Applicants scoring 50% or more are declared to be eligible for attempting the next level of examination. The cut off mark has been reduced to 45% for reserved quota. A pass percentage in this paper is essential for eligibility to attend the second paper, which is Paper 2.

Paper 2 is a subject oriented paper with questions from subjects related to the field applied for. The paper consists of multiple questions worth 20 marks and theoretical questions for 80 marks. The syllabus for the paper is framed by the respective departments and notifications regarding the same will be intimated to the applicants. The results of Paper 1 and Paper 2 will be announced department wise.

Candidates with valid GATE/ SET/ NET/ SRF/ JRF/ GPAT scores or with an MPhil degree completed from a recognised university are exempted from the written test. More details of the same are available at the official web portal of the university.

Candidates satisfying the eligibility requirements can apply for the program through the application form available online at the web portal of Pune University. The application procedure will be considered to be complete only after the receipt of hardcopy of the online application form along with copies of university bank challan and other documents proving eligibility.
