BITS Pilani,First Semester Biomolecular Modeling(BIO C417) course is taught in BITS PILANI and all other colleges of engineering which teach biotechnology or chemical engineering. Like other important courses it has 60 hours of theory and lab work dedicated to it. It ensures that the basics are known to each student. The fundamentals of this subject are important for the overall knowledge of each student of chemistry or biochemistry.

Importance of the paper

The course and mainly the theory part provide a clear back ground of molecular modeling for every student of engineering in the first semester itself. Professionals trained in bimolecular modeling and no wonder all the top enterprises prefer them.

Format

The format of the paper is such that it covers all the aspects of the subject. It differs from normal papers as it has 2 parts dedicated to bio molecular modeling. The first part has 70 marks and is closed book where each question is compulsory. The second part is an open book portion which has 30 marks for it. This ensures that any and every student has a fair chance in the examination.

Paper pattern

The paper covers every chapter be it homology modeling, hidden markov model or ramachandran plot or even chou fasman algorithm, protein domains, secondary structure, primary structure, beta sheet, alpha helix etc. The weightage varies with the number of hours given to each chapter in the lectures.

Marking

The paper is marked such that the first part of 2 hours closed book has 70 marks but the second part that is open book has 30 marks.. The total marks are 100.

Time

The paper has to be completed by 3 hours.
