Botanist - How to become a Botanist?


Botany is a sub division of Biology that is concerned with the scientific study of plant life. Those who have studied the various courses in Botany can turn out to be Botanists. These professionals are actually plant scientists who conduct research activities to study the structure, growth, food accumulation and reproduction modes of different plants and algae. They also study plant life and the interaction of plants with the milieu. Botanists, in their day-to-day activities carry out experiments to examine how ecological conditions affect plant species and also make out new varieties of plants using tissue culture, layering, budding and so on.

Qualifying Exam

To become a Botanist, aspirants have to pursue the post graduation in Botany, Biology or related fields. Most of them also pursue the research programs in the concerned areas so as to get good careers in the sector. Various Universities all through the world offer a wide range of courses in Botany. Botany also has sub divisions. Aspirants who study ocean plants can become marine botanists whereas those who study agricultural crops can turn out to be agronomists. Who is eligible to apply?

The eligibility criterion to apply for the Masters’ course is a Bachelors’ degree in Botany, Biology or related fields. Candidates should have done the course from an acknowledged University. They should clear a PG entrance test also in order to get admission for the postgraduate programs. Those who have completed post graduation in the relevant fields can pursue the M Phil or PhD programs in Botany.

    can I search on botany.I have completed PG with 67.25% in 2002.after that I did work as a guest lecturer for some times.Now I am doing teaching work at coching classes in bhilwara Raj.I have got fourth position in merit list in 2002 from vikram university ujjain.
