Chartered Accountant Common Proficiency Test (CA CPT) 2012
The Chartered Accountant Common Proficiency Test (CA CPT) is meant for the talented candidates who are looking for an excellent career in Chartered Accountancy. This is an entry level examination for all those who are aspiring to enter in Chartered Accountancy field.
Structure of CA CPT Examination
CA CPT Exam is a multiple choice question based exam which will be conducted in two sessions. Exam can be taken in online and paper-pencil mode. Negative marking is there for this examination.
Syllabus for CA CPT Examination
The syllabus for CA CPT Examination is given below:
- Quantitative Aptitude
- Mercantile Law
- Accounting
- General Economics
Session I includes two sections with a total of 100 marks
Section A: Fundamentals of Accounting for 60 marks which includes the following portions:
Introduction to Accounting, Special Transactions, Bank Reconciliation, Preparation of Final, Depreciation treatment and accounting process.
Section B: Mercantile Laws for 40 marks which comprises the following portions:
The Sale of Goods Act, 1930, India Partnership Act, 1932 and the Indian Contract Act 1872.
Session II includes two sections with a total of 100 marks:
Section C: General Economics for 50 marks and the portions are as follows:
Indian Economy- A Profile, Price, Product and Cost theories, demand and supply, Micro Economics, Economic Reforms in India.
Section D: Quantitative Aptitude for 50 marks which includes:
Simple and Compound Interest, Equations, probability theory, correlation and regression, Logarithms, Ratio and Proportion and Inequalities, Sampling Theory, Statistics, Limits and Continuity and Basic Concepts of Permutations and Combinations.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who have cleared a Plus Two or equivalent from a recognized institution is eligible to appear for CA CPT Examination.
How to apply for CA CPT Exam?
The examination notification is announced by the Institute of Chartered Accountant in India. Candidates can register for the exam by filling in an application form along with an examination fee of Rs. 600/-. Candidates also have an option to download form from the official website: www.icai.org.
Important Dates of CA CPT Exam
The Paper Pencil Mode session is mainly conducted in the month of June and December OF 2012. The CA CPT June examination date is on usually 3rd week of June, 2012. The Online Registration Mode will conducted be conducted four times in a Year. Examination will be in the months of August, September, October and December, 2012.

Study Plan

Cutoffs for CA CPT Exam
An aggregate of 50% marks in the qualifying papers is required to pass through the CA CPT Exam. The pass mark will be 100 out of 200.

Score Validity
The duration of the score validity is 5 years. Candidates should complete the course within this period of time.
