Biochemical engineering and Genetic engineering deal with the same theme, small units in a particular organism. Although both the field manages the same theme, there are lots of differences between them in terms of their work area and applications used in particular environments. Biochemical engineering is usually applied in the fields of food, biotechnology, water treatment and pharmaceuticals. Genetic engineering is the field which deals with the living organisms like plants, animal and human beings.

Biochemical Engineering

Biochemical engineering is subdivision of chemical engineering or the biological engineering. This field mainly manages the design and creation of various unit processes that are involved in the molecules or biological organisms. This field is usually taught as a supplementary choice of chemical engineering or the biological engineering. This is due to the fact that there are similarities between both the fields which include the curriculum, subjects and the skills and techniques used by both professions. The prime application areas of biochemical engineering are feed, pharmaceuticals, food, etc. The professionals working in these biochemical application areas are known as biochemical engineers. They are said to be a unique combination of two fields of study. Biochemical engineers use diverse engineering problem solving and theory skills in their works and apply them to the molecular structure of the small units. They are the professionals who continuously look forward to the development of natural fuels, increasing the efficiency of particular drugs or pharmaceutical processes and even help to find a way to cure the diseases. They often work as team leader or supervisor or the management level of the team work.

Genetic Engineering

Genetic engineering is a widely complicated and highly developed discipline of science. It involves a wide variety of techniques that are used in altering the genetic matter in a DNA code of the living organisms. By the word genetic engineering, it means the intentional variation of the features of an organism by the alteration of its genetic substances. This particular branch comes under the broad section of Biotechnology. Genetic engineers are said to be the research scientists who work with the genetic material of human beings, animals or plants. They are the scientists involved in researching, improving and testing the diverse new methods and products using various applications. The genetic engineers are usually recruited by the pharmaceutical and chemical firms and the organizations which specialize in genetic engineering.

Key differentiators of Biochemical Engineering and Genetic Engineering

Biochemical engineering is that field of science which involves the processes and techniques used in the modification of smaller units in food, pharmaceuticals, natural fuels, etc. whereas genetic engineering mainly deals with the variety of techniques used in the alteration of genetic materials in living organisms.

Biochemical engineers continually look forward to the development of diverse methods to improvement of natural fuels, developing efficiency of drugs or pharmaceutical products whereas genetic engineers are involved in the research activities for improving and testing new methods to improve products.

Even though biochemical engineering and genetic engineering are the two fields in biotechnology, they are lot of differences between the two.
