Difference between Honours and Ordinary Degree
Honours and Ordinary Degree are academic degrees offered to undergraduate students. The concept of honours degree was introduced for the first time in Britain. Later the same spread over other countries like India, Canada, Sri lanka, Ireland and Australia. The course duration for both the degrees are almost same. However, in certain countries Honours degree takes a longer duration than that of the former. Honours degree holds a higher priority than that of ordinary degree programs.
Honours and Opportunities
Honours level courses are offered through certain Universities and Colleges in the country. The academic curriculum of honours degree is designed at a higher standard than that of ordinary degree courses. Because of this reason, the same is considered much superior to that of ordinary degree course. If the score of the candidate is 70% or above then he will be awarded with First Class honours. If the marks fall between 60-70%, then they are awarded with Upper Second Class and those coming under 50-60% are provided with Lower Second Class Honours. The candidate has to obtain at least 40% marks to obtain a pass in the same. Honours degree offers adequate higher study options and career opening to aspirants in India as well as abroad
Ordinary Degree and Opportunities
Ordinary degree or bachelors degree are much common than that of Honours degree. Such courses are offered through almost all institutions in the country. The same allows higher study options in the concerned area of study. One can search and pursue a job after completing graduation according to their interest.
Key differences between Honours and Ordinary Degree
- Ordinary degree is much easier for students to pursue when compared with Honours degree.
- The candidate has to pass additional papers to obtain Honours degree when compared to an ordinary degree.
Even though both the degrees are similar up to certain limit, there exist slight differences between the two. Honours degree is considered much superior to that of ordinary degree. In some countries, the course duration of Honours degree is higher than that of Ordinary degree. In the academic perspective, Honours degree stands at a higher level when compared with that of an ordinary degree.
