Entry options for Women in Navy
Women are inducted to the Navy under the Short Service Commission scheme. They are inducted into Navy in branches like executive, education and engineering. The age and the education qualification required for all these areas vary. Like for ATC and Logistics the minimum age required is 19.5 years and maximum age required is 25 years. But for ATC only science graduates in areas like Maths, Electronics and Physics can apply. Candidates who have completed B.A, B.Com, B.Tech too can apply for Logistics section.
Executive Branch
The various areas that women can enter under the Executive branch are ATC, Logistics, Law and Observer. The eligibility criteria to be satisfied to enter any of these branches are mentioned below.
ATC – The minimum age required to apply for post is 19.5 years and the maximum age limit is 25 years. Science graduates who have specialised in Maths, Electronics and Physics can apply. Minimum first class is a must. If the candidate applying is a post graduate in areas like Maths, Electronics and Physics then the minimum percentage required is 55%.
Logistics – The age requirement for this section is 19.5 -25 years. Candidates who have secured first class in any of the areas mentioned below are eligible to apply
- BSc(IT)
- Catering Technology
- B.Com
- C.A.
- ICWA
- B.A. in Economics
- BCA
- MCA
- B.E/ B.Tech in Electronics, Mechanical, Electrical, IT, Marine, Computers, Civil, Architecture
Candidates who have completed graduation in any other area but have studied P.G. Diploma in Material Management can also apply post.
Law – Candidates whose age is within 22-27 years are eligible to apply. Only Law graduates who have secured minimum 55% marks can apply. They should be enrolled under Advocates Act 1961.
Observer – Graduates with any area of specialisation can apply if they have studies Mathematics and Physics in 12th standard. The age limit to apply is 19-23 years.
Education Branch
In the education branch candidates can apply if their age is within 21-25 years. Also they should have completed B.Tech/ B.E. in IT, Electronics, Electrical or Mechanical. A minimum 60% marks in any of these is a must. Candidates who have completed B.Sc and M.Sc in Computer Application, Maths or Physics can apply if they have secured minimum 50% marks in the same.
Engineering Branch
Candidates apply for this branch have two options available i.e. SSC(Naval Architecture), University Entry Scheme (SSC)(Naval Architecture). The age limit to apply for SSC(Naval Architecture) is 21-25 years. For University Entry Scheme the age limit is 19-24 years. BE/B.Tech candidates who have specialised in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Naval Architecture, Metallurgical, Civil and Aerospace are eligible to apply. Minimum 60% marks is required to apply for this branch.
