Essential Details on TIFAC WOS-C
Women Scientists Scholarship Scheme (WOS-C) is a scholarship scheme designed specifically for women candidates with adequate qualifications in science, engineering, medicine or allied areas. Patent Facilitating Centre (PFC) of Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) is the responsible authority which operates this scheme on behalf of the Department of Science & Technology (DST) for duration of 1 year. Selection process will include a written examination followed by Personal interview. The stipend amount offered is Rs 12, 500/- for M.Sc/ B.Tech/ MBBS/ B.Pharm students and Rs 17, 500/- for PhD/ M.Tech /M.D / M.Pharm students.
Overview of TIFAC WOS-C
Women Scientists Scholarship Scheme (WOS-C) is a government of India scholarship scheme intended mainly for women scientists (having science qualifications). This scheme is being organized and implemented by Patent Facilitating Centre (PFC) of Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) on behalf of the Department of Science & Technology (DST). As part of this scheme, women candidates qualified in specialization streams like science, medicine, engineering, technology and allied areas are imparted training in the specific area of intellectual property rights (IPR). The program is for 1 year and the stipends offered to the selected candidates are –
- Rs.12, 500/- per month for M.Sc/ B.Tech/ MBBS/ B.Pharm students
- Rs.17, 500/- per month for PhD/ M.Tech /M.D / M.Pharm students
Eligibility Criteria for TIFAC WOS-C
Only women candidates with Indian nationality can apply for this scheme. It is necessary to have at least a Masters or Doctorate degree in Science to become eligible. On the other hand, those candidates who have taken a graduate or post graduate degree in engineering or technology in any of the following subject areas can also apply –

- Life Sciences & Biotechnology
- Instrumentation & Biomedical Engineering
- Information Technology
- Industrial Engineering
- Food & Pharma
- Electronics & Communication Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Drugs
- Computer Science Engineering

- Chemical Sciences
The higher age limit specified for eligible candidate is 50 years. It is also necessary for candidates to be proficient in maintaining computerized databases, information collection, and report preparation.
Selection and Training procedure for TIFAC WOS-C
Selection of suitable candidates is done through a written test (conducted at all India level) and interview. Those who are able to qualify written examination are selected for attending personal interview session. Selected candidates are offered with training program on Intellectual Property Rights for at least one to two months. Trained ones are appointed as interns for hands on training in selected branches of Co ordination centers.
Application Procedure for TIFAC WOS-C
Only online mode of application submission is allowed. Candidates need to log in to official website of TIFAC to fill the online application form. This must be filled in the specified format and with exact details. Candidates need to attach an attested passport size photograph in the space provided in the online application form. Completed filled in applications need to be submitted before the last date specified.
