IAS stands for INDIAN ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICE, to become an IAS officer one has to appear and crack the Civil Service exam conducted by UPSC every year.

It is very good that you are thinking about IAS after 12th standard as one should start preparation along with his under Graduate studies after 12th in order to be confident to sit in the Civil Service exam after Graduation.

The eligible candidate must be an Indian National having either appear for the final Graduation Degree exam or pass in any stream of education from a recognised University within the age of 21 to 30 years with a relaxation of upper age for SC/ST/PH candidate up to 5 years and for OBC up to 3 years.

The selection is through three stages:-

Civil Service Main Exam
Personal Interview

IAS exam is very tough . one should prepare it in the first year of their graduation so after the graduation one can crack the exam . It is good that you decided that you want to become an IAS so as you are science student after 12th go to the core engineering branches like MECHANICAL , CIVIL , ELECTRICAL , because these branches are helpful to you in your exam .
After the 12th board you just start the preparation for IAS by reading the social science book of std 5-12 of CBSE board . Try to improve your english and GK by reading the english news paper and magazines . Best of luck
