Yes a person can join Merchant Navy after the completion of his 12th but for that he will have to crack NDA exam .

NDA stands or national defense academy and the same examination is conducted by Union Public Service Commission two times every year .

The qualifications required or appearing in this examination are given below :-

You should be an unmarried male candidate .

You age must be above 16.5 years but not exceeds 19 years too .

You should have done your 12th with physics , chemistry and mathematics as your main subjects from a recognized school/college . English is compulsory too for the same examination .

The NDA has three wings which are Indian Navy , Indian Air force and Indian Army.

The examination is conducted into two stages first stage is the written exams and the second stage is the SSB interview .

But friend as you are a commerce student you are not eligible for joining Merchant Navy or Indian Air force .But if you are looking for the defense field then you can go for the Indian Army wing .

There are many courses to opt from in context to Merchant Navy. Spanning from 3 years B.Sc. in Nautical Science. Candidates need to be 10+2 with minimum 60 per cent and Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English. Age limit should be between 17 to 25 years. There is also 2 years Higher National Diploma (HND) in Nautical Science. Candidates should be 10+2 PCM and age limit for the course is 25 years. The one year Diploma course in Nautical Science require candidates who have passed class 12 with minimum 55 per cent and with Physics, chemistry and maths.
