Hello.....As far as indian courses are concerned for deck cadet and marine engineer, you won't be eligible.
Your english marks are fine but your PCM percentage needed to be better than 55 percent.it would be better for you to write marks improvement exam if your board allows it. You are ineligible for officer category but you can apply for GP ratings and saloon ratings. Actually if you know someone who has been working in merchant navy for long time contact him. He could be having all inside details. There are some foreign companies who can take you in officer category but they don't release it publically. They might put you for continuous 36 months onboard training if they take you on 10th basis. All the best. |

Hello,
If you are wishing to enter the navigational and engineering fields of Merchant Navy need to complete their B.Sc. degree in mechanical or marine engineering, before they can gain admission to the field. In some cases, students who have completed their 12th with PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) are eligible to join as Deck Cadets. So you are absolutely eligible for this course. Go ahead. |

Re: Am I eligible for Merchant Navy after scoring 48% in PCM and 74% in English in 12th?
Yes, you are eligible for merchant navy as the eligibility criteria for the same is as under-
1. Candidates need to show proof of completing 10+2 system or equivalent, having passed Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics as elective subjects. 2. Some of the Qualifying Examinations are as follows: - All India Senior School Certificate Examination of CBSE - Higher Secondary Examination (from any Central/State Board of Secondary Education) - Indian School Certificate Examination of Council of Indian School of Examination, New Delhi - Intermediate Science/Technical or 2-year pre-university examination - Final Examination of 2-year course of Joint Service Wing of the NDA - 1st year examination of a 5-year integrated course from an IIT- or IIT recognised institution/university - 1st year examination of a 3-year degree course of any recognised Indian University. As the %age of marks will not matter for the admission & only a candidate have the PCM as elective subjects is considered to be eligible for merchant navy. Selection is based on the Joint Entrance Examination given by the IIT. So be prepare yourself for it. |

Normally most institutes ask for at least 50% in these subjects. So it may not be possible for you to secure admission for the same. You could however try to secure admission in any college and complete you engineering. If you score well in the same you will be able join then. You should try for either Marine or Mechanical engineering.

Re: Am I eligible for Merchant Navy after scoring 48% in PCM and 74% in English in 12th?
hello dear
see, to do engineering in any branch or trade minimum 50% marks in 12th for general candidate is mandatory. so if you have above 50% marks in overall and minimum 50% marks in math then only you will be eligible for Merchant Navy . all the best......... |

you are not eligible for merchent navy.
for merchent navy you have to secure minimum 60% in 10 th std. also 60% marks are very necessary for other exam or job so you will give your 10th exam again.otherwise you will faces problems in future. |
