Hi,
If you r 12th from (PCM) you can join Merchant Navy.No problem that you r doing BSC. You have to fill the form & give the exam, if you will pass then only you can enter in that field or you have to do the course related to this. Some University in India provide course for this.Ok Best of Luck! |

Re: Can BSc graduates join Merchant Navy? Is it a good option for them?
Since you are already a B.Tech you are eligible to join this stream. But since you are not from the marine engineering stream you will need to go through the one year of pre sea training. Also you have more than the minimum of 50% marks which is the minimum requirement. You need to select the institute from which you plan to do the course. You will need to appear for an entrance exam for joining that institute. On clearing the test you will need to appear for an interview round. Only on clearing this will you be able to join the institute for training. But before that you will also need to undergo a physical fitness test. There will be a thorough check up as it is a must in this field. After training you can choose which company you would like to work for.

Re: Can BSc graduates join Merchant Navy? Is it a good option for them?
The minimum eligibility to join Indian navy in the nautical science and Marine engineering, is to have 10+2 in PCM subject. The candidate must also pass the Medical fitness test according to the standard norms. Either you enter in to the navy with the 12th standard qualification and go through pre sea training and join in as Deck cadet. It is possible for you to join a 12 month pre sea training course. Some institutions also offer a 6 month course for general purpose rating. A job in the merchant navy is very challenging and is stress full at times there for it is required for the candidates to have mental stability. If you get a bachelors degree then it is possible for you to join in the Navy in the Engine cadet. As you have a diploma in computer engineering it would be better if you go for a lateral entry in engineering and then apply in the Navy. There are many institutions which offer pre-sea training. MERI offer a 9 month course for engineering students.
