Eligibility Criteria for IPS officer:- Educational Qualifications : Graduates in any discipline from a recognized university. Candidates having professional and technical qualifications recognized by the government are also eligible. For the Indian Administrative Service and the Indian Police Service, a candidate must be a citizen of India For other services, a candidate must be either : (a) a citizen of India, or (b) a subject of Nepal, or (c) a subject of Bhutan, or (d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India with the intention of permanently settling in India. or Age Limits : (a) Candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on the 1st August of the year in which examination is being held. (b) The upper age limit prescribed above will be relaxable: (i) upto a maximum of five years for a SC/ST candidate. (ii) upto a maximum of three years for OBC (iii) upto a maximum of five years if a candidate had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during a particular period Personal Attributes : The aspiring candidates are expected to have keen interest in the General Studies and are supposed to have a good amount of interest in current affairs. Regular and detailed reading of a good national newspaper, a standard competition magazine and a basic book on general knowledge is the essential pre-requisite. Another important point is efficient time planning. Physical Standards : Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to Civil Services Examination. 1:Height- Minimum height for the Male 165 cm & for ST 160 cm,for the SC/ OBC,is not Minimum height for the Female 150 cm & for ST 145 cm,for the SC/ OBC,is not 2:Chest- for male minimum 84 cm. expansion 5 cm. for female minimum 79 cm. expansion 5 cm. 3:Eye Sight- 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision. J1 for near vision Number of Attempts: Every candidate appearing at the Civil Services Examination shall be permitted four attempts at the examination. this restriction will not apply in the case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST), Other Backward Classes(OBC) Physically Handicapped(PH) candidates who are eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates. best of luck. |

If you want to become IPS ( Indian Police Service ) Officer then you have to crack the UPSC Civil services examination.
You have to apply for this examination which is conducted by UPSC every year. It has 2 Parts : Preliminary examination (CSAT) Main examination. If you crack the CSAT examination, then you are eligible for the Main exam. The selection are based on merit of the following CSAT Mains Physical test Personal Interview. Eligiblity Criteria : You should be a Graduate in any discipline form a recognized University, Age limit shall be 21 to 30 years. Final Year candidates are also eligible to apply. Number of Attempts are very strict in IPS and are as follows : General candidates get maximum 4 attempts, whereas OBC get 7. SC and ST don't have any such limits. What you can do is, subscribe to Employment News, or visit employmentnews.gov.in So if you want, you can apply for this exam. All the Best. |

Eligibility to be an IPS Officer
1. Educational Qualification To be eligible for becoming an IPS officer, the candidate must possess a degree from an Indian University or an equivalent qualification. Those in the final year of a degree course can also appear in the Preliminary Examination taken every year by UPSC. 2. Age The candidate must have attained the age of 21 years on 1st August of the year of examination and must not have attained 30 years of age on that date. The upper age limit will be relaxed by 3 years for OBC candidates and 5 years for SC/ST candidates. The upper age limit is also relaxed in favour of Defense Services Personnel. 3. Other Eligibility Conditions These services involves decision making towards the internal security of the country and taking into account the sensitivity of the job, the aspirants have to be eligible under certain specific conditions as given ahead. 1. For IPS, the candidate must be a citizen of India. 2. For other services, a candidate must be either: a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal, or a subject of Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. |
