The basic educational qualification required is a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university. There is no separate exam for IPS [Indian Police Service]. You need to appear for Common Civil Services Examination conducted by UPSC [Union Public Service Commission]. The exam is conducted in 3 steps: Preliminary Exam, Main Exam and a Personality Test [Interview]. UPSC publishes notification for the Preliminary exam in "Employment News" and other major daily news papers in the month of November/December.

You need to be a graduate or in final year of graduation..to appear for UPSC the exam through which IPS cadre is selected.... becoming ias is a tough task,
lakhs of people work hard day and night...
well basicaly start with good academics.. maintain good scores
read magazines newspapers daily, reac chronicle CSR youjna.. keep abreast with current affairs.. and read a lot,,, also make it a habit of writing two pages per day essays arguments, views etc..
then in graduation you may like to take coaching.. just to ease the task and work smart to the point.
if you manage to do the above things right.. you'll be an ips.

Police Service is a job where your nature of taking responsibility and your commitment level are accounted for. To become an IPS officer you need to clear the Civil service exam conducted by UPSC. Any graduate from the recognized university can apply for the UPSC ICS exam. You need to clear mainly three steps, CSAT, Main and Interview. The IPS aspirants also need to clear the medical and physical examination. The CSAT include the General awareness paper and the Reasoning and Logical paper. CSAT is Common for all ICS applicant. The qualified students have to appear for the Main exam; there you can select the subject according to your expertise. The physical test will be conducted before the interview schedule and only the qualified students of the Physical exam can attend the interview.

A simple graduate can opt for civil services and on cracking them can opt for being an IPS officer. I personally find it much worth opting as a career choice than IAS 'coz of the field service involved in it. I will prefer you to learn the tricks and get yourself acquainted with the UPSC syllabus thoroughly for cracking the exam.
Also, You have two options.. either look for some offline coaching or go online. I personally prefer online course 'coz a) you get the best deal i.e. the teacher at your doorstep b) saves your precious time c) proves economical d) interactive session with 1-1 personal connection
