CDS stands for Combined Defense Service whereas, IMA is Indian Military Academy and candidates willing to join Indian Army are sent to this academy for further training.
The Combined Defense Service exam is conducted for recruitment of candidates in all the defense forces of India but since you are from Arts background, you will be considered eligible only for Indian Army and once you qualify the exam, you will be able to join Indian Military Academy for further training.
The notification of the exam is published on the official website of union public service commission twice a year as the examination is conducted two times a year.

IMA can be expanded as Indian Military Academy.

CDS can be expanded as Combined Defense Service examination.

CDS examination is conducted twice a year by UPSC(Union Public Service Commission). This examination acts as an entrance exam for Indian Defense Services viz Indian Military Academy, Indian Air force, Indian Naval force. For joining in IMA you must have completed your graduation of any discipline. So with arts stream graduation you are eligible to join in Indian Military Academy(IMA) but not in air force or navy.

If want to appear for IMA examination Or CDS examination then you should have completed graduate degree of a recognized University or equivalent qualification.

The candidate must have possess a bachelor's degree in any discipline of a recognized University or equivalent qualification with minimum pass marks in their examination.Those who are appearing in the final year of degree course may also eligible to apply for IMA examination but pre-final year candidates are not eligible .

To apply for CDS examination,the candidate must have attained the age of 19 years and must not have attained the age of 24 years at the time of appearing for this examination and there is no relaxation given to the reserved categories.

Syllabus of this examination :- English,General Knowledge and Mathematics.

CDS I notification was already released and last date for submission was also already completed and Next notification will be publish in the month May or June in the official website of Union Public Service Commission as well as employment news paper.

CDS means Combined Defence Service exam which is conduct twice time in a year through SSB.

UPSC conduct CDS exam .IMA department is a part of CDS exam so if you have cleared the CDS exam then you are applicable for IMA exam.

CDS Educational Qualifications :

1. For I.M.A. and Officers’ Training Academy : Degree of a recognized University or equivalent.

2. For Indian Naval Academy : Degree in Engineering for CDSE and Degree in Engineering or B.Sc. ( with Physics or Mathematics ) for NCC entry.

3. For Air Force Academy : Degree of recognized University ( with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level ) or Bachelor of Engineering.

Age-limits:


19-24 Years Indian Military Academy
19-22 Years Naval Academy
19-23 Years Air Force Academy
19-25 Years Officers’ Training Academy
