Candidates for the Indian Police Service are selected through Civil Service Exam.
Those who qualify the exam are appointed as Assistant Commissioner of Police or Assistant Superintendent of Police.
To write the exam, you must hold a bachelors degree of a recognized university.
Graduates from any discipline may write the exam, irrespective of the marks secured in the same.
The age limit to apply for Civil Service Exam is 21-30 years. The maximum age limit is, however, relaxed for candidates from Sc/St category as well for those belonging to OBC category.
If you fulfill the eligibility criteria mentioned above, you may apply for the exam through online application, available after notification, at www.upsconline.nic.in.

Its seems that you are Interested to become IPS Officer to Join Police Service.

To become IPS Officer, you have to apply for the Civil services examination, This examination is Conducted by UPSC, Every year and the notification of this examination will be published in the month of February in the employment Newspaper or in the UPSC Website.

If your aim is to become IPS Officer in future then please apply for Civil services examination, but to Join this examination you have to fulfill the given eligibility Criteria :

>> You have to complete your Graduate degree course in any discipline.
>> Your age should between 21 to 30 years.
>> Final year appearing candidates are also apply for this examination
>> There is no need to scored any minimum percentage in graduation, If you have passed graduate degree, then you are eligible to apply for this examination.

The Notification will be published soon on 04/Feb/2012 and the candidates may fill the application form online 05/March/2012.

The Preliminary Examination will be held on 20/May/2012.

So, please wait for the Notification and then apply for this examination Online.

You can also apply for Central Police Forces Examination and for this examination you have to complete your bachelor's degree from a recognised university or equivalent.

Those who qualify the Physical Efficiency Test are shortlisted for interviews.

There is no such age limit for IPS(INDIAN POLICE SERVICES).it's only bounded by number of attempts according to your catagory

General candidates : Only 4 Chances

OBC Candidates : Only 7 Chances

SC/ST Candidates : No Limits
